Pc Crashing randomly on Games and Idle

Xander Cousins

Honestly dunno what's happening - had issues with the machine crashing on Dead Space, upgraded to a 7900xt. Issue still present, Noticed the issue continued to other games like Warzone and Destiny 2 and then today it full crashed will having spotify, Wallpaper Engine and an Xbox party running.

The Specs are as follows

I9 12900k

7900 xt Sapphire

32 GB DDR5 Vengence 5600mhz

ASUS Z690-P

Checked Event logs only shows Error of unexpected shutdown but nothing else.

Only have the AMD drivers no adrenalin menu for to see if drivers are showing errors.

Any ideas? Running Windows 11, I assume it been present since upgrading but only noticeable due to playing more pc games recently

Some people prefer a challenge, I just band my head against a wall until my method works...

What have you tried already? Disabled any potential overclocks, disabled XMP, tested RAM for errors, etc?

XMP is so well touted for improve your gaming performance

but in reality it is an overclock that does not play nice with many games...it is just that the number of people that have zero issues outweigh those that do.

I stopped using XMP profiles maybe 5 years ago and since that time never had an issue outside of windows simply breaking itself and doing an oopsy

edit....Warframe will crash to their webpage about hardware errors with XMP enabled......known issue for many years already

Try a cleanboot and disable all non microsoft services and disable startup items to see if it works. If its still not working try sfc /scannow in command prompt, you can also try a system restore to a point before the problem started happening if you saved a restore point.

yeah xmp also usually uses terrible sub timings etc, i don't really think its useful - it depends but on average we're talking like 3-10 fps more in trade for some expected "stability issues"...

i set my ram manually but i didn't do any sub timings yet, i dunno if i can be bothered... pc works fine, no crashes, 120fps locked... thats already 60 more than i need ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sfc /scannow was done previously and still had issues after it repaired corrupted files

What has been tried is a change of GPU,

Clean Driver install (full uninstall of drivers via that special uninstaller)

Currently BioS still runs XMP profile and enabled resizable bar, nothing else is altered

Sooo, Set my Bios back to default

All that changed was switched TPM from Firmware to Discrete and WOL for pcie to disabled,

But one of the things I noticed was in wazone I would lose hella frames in the Plane which only started when the crashes begun, won't be able to test it fully till tomorrow but one of the symptoms are no longer present,

Can TPM cause this type of issue?

Sooo, it appears to be working and behaving after doing the Bios Default

Which is odd

As it only changed two things and I doubt WOL would have caused it soo wondering why the TPM being firmware rather than discrete cause it....
