Hi All,

Thinking about downsizing, while I love my office pc build, I would like something that is more portable.

Spec:

  • 13 or 14inch
  • 100% sRGB 400 nits
  • 90hz+ preferred
  • Unsoldered RAM or Storage / easily repairable
  • Decent cooling / fairly quiet
  • USB-C or Thunderbolt 4 charging
  • 8hours+ battery life

Soldered ram seems to have become a bit of a nasty norm.  Macbook is clearly a no (+ i am a Linux user)

Does the above exist?  Non-negotiables are soldered RAM and storage.

Intel 12400F | 2x8 3000Mhz Corsair LPX | ASRock H570M-ITX  | Noctua DH-N14 | Corsair MP50 480GB | Meshilicious | Corsair SF600Fedora

Thanks let me know if I said something useful. Cheers!

HP EliteBook 835 G8

do the elitebooks actually get propper color accurate displays these days?

other than that - EliteBooks were my first thought as well, they are made to be servicable, because as it turns out, businesses prefer to keep downtime low.

In my experience HP has had pretty decent displays lately

Thanks, wasn't aware of the line up.

Will have a look, though finding 100% sRGB 400nits seems difficult.

Yeah need to be careful with HP. Their 250 nit Panels have 60% sRGB.

Also, stay away from their 1000 nit Displays with SureView. SureView gives you worse viewing angles than TN, even when turned off. horrible for any color accurate work.

Also, i really like the Elitebook 845 G9 with Ryzen 6000 series.

One of the only (or maybe THE only) 14" Laptop with 2 full Ram Slots - and even DDR5.

Still only 0,9 MP Webcam, and only 90 Hz, but at least 16:10 this Generation.

I think, sacraficing 90 Hz is worth here, because 2 Ram Slots are a rare feature now.

Notebookcheck has a good Review on it. The 6-Core even lasts quite a while with 12 hours on wifi browsing (they use a Script that's used on every single Test),

You can't use 60 Hz anymore? Then you kinda have to get used to soldered Ram, often at maximum 16gb.

Ideapad 5 Pro 14", Yoga Slim 7 Pro, and with a slightly sharper and bigger Display at 14,5", the Yoga Slim 7 ProX.

Maybe a few Vivobook Pros / Zenbooks. OLED might be great for you even with 60 Hz, because response times with Oled are extremely sick, while even fast IPS Panels do have more or less ghosting.
