Alright, so about two weeks ago I started a topic over at OC3D that I want to reach a stable 5GHz overclock once I have my updated rig. It took a while for all the parts to get here and to set everything up. Now the topic is dead on their forum, so I reach out to fellow overclockers here.

The initial response I got from TTL was as follows:

"TBH mate they are all so different youll just have to post...LOTS of detail.

bios screenshots will be crucial tbh. getting to 5 is one thing but stable tbh will probably mean a lot more volts than you had it at before and/or working on your other voltages too. There are a surprising amount of hints and tips in our overclocking guide tbh."

Is there any other way besides photographs to take screenshots in BIOS?

As far as my specs go:

Asus Sabertooth Z87

4770k

H105 w/ SP120 Performance Push

post-21525-0-79904000-1399314192.png

Above are 2 screenshots I took yesterday. Mind you I am not looking for 24/7 stability. I ran the Benchmark for only 10 minutes. Once I get to 5 an still have headroom on temps I can think about stabilizing for longer.

I still have the stock thermal paste on the H105. I'll try and add some Noctua paste soon.

For the time being, are there any other infos you guys need to help me out. Please only post if you are experienced :)

Thanks in advance!

Not really info, just a tip: If you haven't already and really want to have it at 5 Ghz then I would suggest delidding the chip. It makes ton of difference on Haswell processors :)

Just make sure that you are willing to use a lot of time to get it right...

You can take a screenshot of the BIOS by inserting a USB flashdrive and pressing F12 (Atleast it works like that on the Asus R4E)

Good luck reaching 5GHz. Hopefully this will only be for joining the 5GHz club and not for 24/7 use.

you do realise that it might not be possible at all and that you might kill your chip in the process? personally i would use a 102.1 bclk and the 49 multiplier to get 5ghz, still..............

@virtualTune.

Thanks for sharing your results and pushing that i7 pretty hard :)

could you please provide a screenshot after running cinebench r15. please include two instances of cpuz. first instance showing cpu info and the second showing the "memory" tab info. @ 4.9GHz

We can get a good idea of overall system performance and stability just by a cinebench score :)

also going to need know all of your current overclocking values and what type of mem chips you have

vccin-?

vcore- 1.424?

ring voltage-?

mem voltage-?

cpu multi- x49?

ring multi- ?

memory frequency-?

I think it will be difficult to hit 5.0GHz stable even with a delid

look at the voltage jump it took you to go from 4.8GHz to 4.9GHz.

the voltage  jump will be even higher to from 4.9GHz to 5.0GHz

your very close to you max recommend temps @ 1.424V. You dont have much thermal headroom left for what we consider a safe \ stable 24\7 OC, nor can I recommend pushing past 1.5V for normal 24\7 usage.

What was you room temp at when you took those screenies?

we can always try for five :)

@ProKoN:

Thank you for the full reply. I should have a chance to do some more overclocking tomorrow. I am well aware that the jump in voltage will likely be big again. I was able to boot at 1.4V and 5GHz but thats about it. You are also right in asuming my room temperatures were abnormal. Since I live in a rather small apartment with terrible air flow, I had my window open throughout the fun. Temperatures where around 17 degrees Celsius.

I did lower my memory clock and timings significantly compared the normal state at 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 (32Gb Corsair Vengeance LP). At 4.9GHz they were at 1066MHz and 10-11-10-30 at 1.5V.

I will upload screenshots of every relavant page in BIOS on wednesday. Also, I am well aware that a 24/7 5GHz overclock is very risky, so I am just looking for enough stability to run it under load for an hour or two.

If I do delid, I believe the common census is to go for CoolLab Liquid Ultra.

I'll return tomorrow night with the Cinebench, CPU-Z and BIOS screens.
