Ryzen 7700X high temps at idle.

I have a Ryzen 7 7700X on an ASUS TUF X670E with BIOS:0821, and a Dark Rock Pro 4 on a fresh windows 11 install.

And i'm experiencing high temps at idle, between 67-75C at idle just browsing pages or YouTube.

On load temps are around 85C which is fine, but my issue are the idle temps.

Tried manual eco mode(PBO Limits: PPT: 88 TDC:75 EDC:150), and the BIOS 65W eco mode with no difference.

Even at 100% fan speed the temps don't go any lower. Is this an issue with the processor or motherboard?

This is at idle, the only thing opened is hwmonitor.

Temps.png

Doubt is my case config since i had a 7700k at max 75c before.

What case and how's the airflow?

I'd remount the cooler for starters. If no settings change things, doubt your cou cooler is making good contact

Ramping fans on the cooler won't do anything if the cooler isn't touching the cpu well

thx for the reply, already re-seated once, i can try again.

case is an old cm scout 2, with 2 front intake fans and 1 side intake, 1 rear and 1 top exhaust. the dark rock pro 4 is with both fans. is it normal for the CPU to be at 76W on idle?

No.  My 7700x hits 40c, albeit with PBO -30, during WoW raids.

76c is nowhere near normal for idle

The 7700x is a full generation ahead of the 5000 series more power with CPU's means you gotta do what the famous spider-man quote "with great power comes great responsibility." Which means get an adequate cooler.

I'm rolling with a 5800x and she's a cooker (I am currently in my families basement and my cpu can warm the basement.)  I can only guess how much heat the 7000 series is gonna put out being what twice the cores to cool 🤣 If my hot 8 core set up requires a 360 AIO or more too cool it and keep it comfy.

Your gonna want more than probably a stock cooler on that 7700

Technically any time you are moving the mouse or ANYTHING is going on Ryzen isn't "idle".  I haven't payed much attention to what the 7950X is running at complete idle (I know I've seen the 50s with very light usage and 92C 100% CPU) but my 5900X would be in the 30s and just moving the mouse shot it up to the 50's.  This is with a custom loop.

i reseated the cooler and changed the paste from cooler master to be quiet's one and these are the results, PBO -10 no eco mode:

Gayming(BFV):

watching a youtube video(after BFV):

image.png.fbe7c1d31d58c35b72f4a29079c1c5a8.png

Its better, but on the warm side, but i think is normal, it took around 10 min to reach the 95c

This is with PBO -10 max temp 85 and AMD ECO 65W mode in bios: after playing BFV, i guess is worth noting that i have a 3080Ti.

image.png.fe9ee79f68a2520ae133c814df00c2c3.png

i guess i'm a bit disappointed with how warm the CPU is, the performance is great tough, couple of questions, why am i not be able to see the eco mode on ryzen master? :

image.png.db11aa9441fb2b2297db98b0dca7484b.png

and is the HWMonitor 90W consumption normal for the 65W ECO mode profile?

Well the 7700x usually wants to hit 90+, it's how it's designed.  If you're still hitting 90+ with the 85c limit in place... hmm.

For Ryzen master, go into Advanced View.  Lots more to look at there.

i have mine with eco mode off and PBO -30 thats all i changed and light load is mid to low 30C.

But i am using a waterblock, guess its pulling a lot of heat away i did also use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme since it was recommended by a few people with these processors.

i'm cool with the temps now, the max is my average gaming session: temp limit 88, PBO -10 and ECO Mode, i think the main source of heat is my GPU, is the MSI 3080 Ti Suprim X  0.850mv@1830Mhz, is a warm boi, i think i need a new case.

  image.png.6a936c7b9b6f3a91366f34727fa05962.pngt

the 7700X boosts 6.4Ghz but it only lasts a few seconds. lol

Anyway, i think i'll buy a Fractal torrent compact but i don't think the GPU will fit, maybe a be quiet 802

thx for all the help.
