hello! I have recently bought an optiplex 3060 with an i5 8500 and wanted to turn it into a gaming computer for realativly cheap. The only problem is the 200w power supply inside the machine which i am not confident to replace with another one.

I checked out pc part picker and found out that if i add an rx 6400 low profile i can be under the watt limit of 182w out of 200w. My only concern is that if the pc will overheat. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd be less concerned about it overheating, and more concerned about it exploding under load. Those Dell PSUs are not great...

The Optiplex ones are usually made by Delta, sometimes Lite-On. Both of those are outstanding OEMs. Their consumer lines...did you know AcBel still makes time bombs PSUs?

I still would not run 182W under load through any 200W PSU...240W minimum for that would be my comfort level.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I may be working with old information as thats what we encountered here at work with the closet full of dead optiplexes.

It's good to know they've improved their PSU line, but like you said...running load under a 200watt PSU is still asking for trouble

What parts are you listing on PCPartPicker? 182w seems high considering how little power the RX 6400 and 8500 draw.

You should be good, but Optiplex 3060 is a hot house to begin with. You can make holes and install fan at the side panel if you like, but for me, I'll just pull open the side panel and call it a day (yeah, you may need to dust your internal often).
