The Cooler Master Glacer 240L chews up the H100i and spits it out. I think people just like the glowing logo or something because people still recommend to H100i every time a thread like this gets posted.

I think that glowing logo is the reason 90% of people get an AIO or more specially the h100i. That's why it drives me mad when people have no money, and everything in their pc is out of date, but they go and spend $100 on a h100i because "they need it" because apparently a 5 year old 2 Ghz CPU is too hot lol.

ask anyone who has gone from an AIO to a high-end air cooler and they will tell you the same, me also I went from having an AIO a few months ago to a NH-U14s and was absolutely shocked at how quiet it went. Now that I'm used to this volume I can't believe I put up with the AIO for so long. In my opinion watercooling should be done in the form of custom loops, unless you cant afford it and really want it to be watercooled.

Yes yes yes. My H80i was LOUD. The pump made a whine, then a grinding sound while my fans made the loudest hum ever. The temps sucked too, the 212 Plus I had before it put the H80i to shame with noise and temps.

Lol when I first switched on the PC After installing the U14s I was like "is it on?" Haha

I have a H105, no sound can be heard at ~50cm away. When i mean no sound i mean its the same volume as ambient noise in a quiet closed off room.

Even under load when gaming, my gpu (msi R9 280x) is louder.

Will it make a difference to have it be quieter then ambient? No perceivable difference as far as I can tell. Under light load my H105's fans stay at 600rpm. I could turn them off and the rad can still handle the passive cooling and no sound difference that I can pick out.

Having a fan curve makes the AIO silent. However if I push my fans to max (SP120s PE 2100rpm) yes they sound like a wind tunnel but I don't need to raise them above 1600rpm for gaming and whatnot(at that rpm my gpu is still louder.)

The stock fans on AIOs are loud yes but even when I use sp120s at 600rpm I don't hear the pump noise.(only can i hear it if i remove the side panel, still it is hardly noticeable)

So sometimes the noise factor is the fans, not the pump. When you compare stock aio fans to a noctua air tower that includes noctua fans of course noctua > aio.

Unless you tell me i'm just lucky to receive a AIO with no problems.

I understand that some AIOs tend to have pump noise, whine and what not. But I find it unfair and biased to say "forget aios completely" Everything has merits and demerits.

Not every AIO is bad, 240L or H105 for example. Having a fan curve does wonders as well.

If you don't use pump noise as your argument, it is basically a matter of fans.

Flat out, AIO will most of the time be louder than a high end air tower. But I'd say with aftermarket fans, those without pump noise issues will be around the same noise level as air towers. Worth the extra money? Up to the end user

.

I can see that you're a fan of AIO's so fair enough and I know everyone's expierence are different, so lets just say our definitions of silent are different and leave it there.

I'm a fan of AIOs cause of the flexibility they provide, not because of their "superior" performance.

i'm merely stating the example of how certain aios can be silent as well..

There isn't a need to say avoid aios completely when its based on your own experience now is it?

Why not say most aios have pump noises and usually loud stock fans? As compared to High end air towers that provided superior performing fans out of the box. (state the same point, no need to sound so one sided)

Then let the user decided..

This whole thing is about noise, and I'm sorry but a high end air cooler will almost ALWAYS be quieter than an AIO. Yes AIO's are more flexible fair enough but this is about sound. And a high end air cooler will be quieter than an AIO, you might think your AIO is very very quiet but I can almost guarantee an air cooler will be quieter. Lets just say they both have their advantages and disadvantages and leave it there.

tho, you gotta think about where that heat's gonna go

sure, air coolers may be more silent, but if you don't have good enough airflow trough the case and maxing out the gpu that's making all the air in the case hotter, then even air coolers won't perform as good as AIO, since AIO dumps the hot air right out of the case, instead of just blowing it over the fins and relying on other fans to blow that hot air out of the case

got the h220 few days ago, put on nf-f12 and can confirm that the pump is audible if you focus on the sound and trying to hear it, else it's not

and asked Linus what he considers a silent>reliable>performance AIO

"Most AIOs are basically the same in terms of acoustics and reliability (Asetek and Coolit make most of them and other rebrand), so I don't really have a recommendation..."

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.
