Huge numbers of people on Earth are keen to leave the planet forever and seek a new life homesteading on Mars.

About 78,000 people have applied to become Red Planet colonists with the nonprofit organization Mars One since its application process opened on April 22, officials announced today (May 7). Mars One aims to land four people on the Red Planet in 2023 as the vanguard of a permanent colony, with more astronauts arriving every two years thereafter.

I would love a chance to visit Mars like many others out there. Living there permanently maybe yes maybe no. It all depends on how they are gonna make it possible for us to live there and how safe it'll be.

Maybe I'll watch the documentary before making my decision.

I will definitely be interested in watching the documentaries, but I do not believe this is real it would cost too much money and resources. I think that even n.a.s.a. would have a hard time to do something similar.

It's definately an interesting project. But i don't know how they might be able to pull it off. The logistics alone will be a nightmare.

After watching the "water on mars" episode of Doctor Who...I don't think I would want to visit Mars ever.

This does sound like a pretty cool idea (minus the whole "this is a one-way ticket" thing). I wonder how they will replicate the atmosphere of Earth so people can survive there...

I think this is amazing. Humans need to colonize all the planets we can and build an artificial planet we can move around.

Does anyone else remember this:

We need to be able to move our planet and take all the resources off other stellar objects and continue to build and evolve as a species. I mean, if the Sun goes super nova...and we could just move away and find another star....like...come on... That would be freaking amazing. Going to Mars is the first step!! ^___^
