Budget (including currency): $1500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:
- Different games from COD to Roblox to Fortnite
- Blender
- Some streaming/recording

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

- Current Parts List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8Yx7JM

Currently my list has $700 to fit a gpu. I'm really not sure whether to go new or used as well as AMD or Nvidia. Feel free to suggest changes to my original parts list too btw. 🙂

Video card follows monitor. How much monitor do you want?  If it was anything 1080p slower than 150hz I’d say the very cheapest 6600 you can find.  More is more though.  I got a 32in.4k@144 and picked the cheapest 6800xt I could find.  I know nothing about blender requirements though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I swap that ssd for one with A Dram Cache. It improves performance and longevity by a mile some thing like Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB

For gpu i would get Amd gpu if your main goal is gaming You can get pretty power full one like 6800Xt in your budget (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/vKZ9TW/xfx-radeon-rx-6800-xt-16-gb-speedster-merc-319-core-video-card-rx-68xtalfd9), But the rendering with Blender will be slower In AMD gpus (There is Hip api but it currently way slower than optix ) .  If your main goal is Blender You have to go with Nvidia and you can get 3070Ti in your budget (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/XmLFf7/asus-geforce-rtx-3070-ti-8-gb-rog-strix-gaming-oc-video-card-rog-strix-rtx3070ti-o8g-gaming)

Looking at used can also be not the worst idea with GPUs.  There’s a lot of buyer beware involved.  You don’t want to pay $500 for someone else’s piece of ewaste.  Return policies and testing are critical.

blender is doing okay with 3070, but on heavy scenes 8GB is not enough. Get the 3090 as it has 24GB. Blender will run much better!

Heh. For only twice the price.  I’m sure it will though.  For determining what kind of gpu you want you need to decide what resolution you are aiming at 1080p, 1440p, or 4k.  The 3070 is 1440p, the 3090 is 4k.

thats the problem with partpicker

the stuff usually isnt in stock and if they are then its usually far more expensive.  just like ub it has its use cases, but for actually buying parts there are probably better,  more realistic options,  at least in europe

So the "700 bucks in your budget" card cost actually 900 bucks, if you've noticed?

yep, the 3070 vram is anemic even for games,  but wouldn't a 12gb 3080 be an option too? (i guess it would)

Pcpartpicker does seem to have developed some problems that way.  I personally suspect they’re being gamed somehow because their prices are no longer reliably the lowest available, though it does happen.   The implication is that it is a sampling rate issue. This may be the case if things are going in and out of stock faster than pcpartpicker can keep up.  Perhaps a “was last in stock” counter might be useful.  Part of the problem is it used to be that stuff that was out of stock often would never be in stock again, but the supply chain is sufficiently messed up, and runs on a product can happen so fast, that it’s not reliable any more.

I’ve seen 3060s with 12gb.  There may be a 3070 or 3070ti with more memory around.  I agree that 8 seems low though.
