Wrong Internet Location !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

Tocsin_786

my internet location is in the wrong state, and it had been causing me all the hell in the world. how do i change it back to my current location/?(back to new york)

Green dot is in wrong location. the white dots are the servers and it always chooses the one thats a little to the left. i dont live in CT. i live in NY and my internet and ip address all say im in CT when i am not.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

Choose the server that is closest to you, they allow you to do that.

I thought that the service automatically uses the best connection, not the closest.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

the white dots are the servers. that green dot is what the internet thinks is the place i live. that arrow that says where i live is actually where i live and where that green dot is supposed to be.

is your ISP located there? that maybe be that problem, but not 100% sure. If not are you using a vpn or have you changed your IP?

It just chooses the best server for the test, it's not supposed to be your location because you're only one half of the session.

no. my isp is a local isp for that NY island only. and this has never happened before. and my vpn is off. i even reset the router and it didnt work. then i put my ip address into a location website and it said my ip address is located in CT while i dont even live there,

yea i get that. it always chooses the best server and that server is actually to the left of the island. i checked a ip tracking website and it also said my ip address is located in CT and not NY

Just a shot in the dark, is your ISP Optimum Online by any chance? They've been doing a bit of maintenance lately and it has shuffled everyone's IP address ranges around. After years of have my reported location be accurate within 5 miles, everything suddenly says I live in New Jersey because of my new ip address.

Yeah, they started this back in march, bit by bit everyone is getting reassigned new ip addresses. I thought about complaining to them, but unfortunately nowhere in our contract does it say they need to give us the same ip address, they're free to distribute them however they want. It takes a while for their databases to be updated with the correct locations. And I don't blame you for hating verizon, their speeds are horrible here.

yea. speaking of verizon speeds. i have the same 50/25 i had on fios and on optimum. but verizon just sucks. i never got HD netflix and youtube took long to buffer. now that i switched i havent had a problem at all.
