Does the ASUS AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (RT-AX55) actually do openWRT?

Bombastinator

So I bought this router on recommendation, and according to this site

https://screamsorbet.com/best-openwrt-wifi-6-router/ it does openWRT, but when I go to the openwrt site I see this:

https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/start

in which the ax55 is conspicuously absent.

what do I do with this thing? Am I missing something obvious?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

From where? That site seems to just be AI-generated clickbait with no relevance whatsoever.

The guy at the microcenter (needs that facepalm emoji again)  well is there anything I can do with it? Or is it just ewaste I need to get rid of?

What were you hoping to do with OpenWRT on it?

Well it's probably a perfectly good router and unless you know why you need OpenWRT you probably don't...

Could probably return it too.

Having trouble doing even basic wifi security on the the thing.  One thing I have to do is turn off wps. I have a list somewhere. I shouldn’t have to do any port forwarding in the firewall, but building a vpn would be nice.  Just turning off SSID wasn’t even possible though (a necessity two weeks a year in my neighborhood)
