Is it safe to buy a GPU with bricked bios?

8740359o

I found a great deal on an RX 580 8gb for about $50 and the seller said "Tried to mess with bios and it stopped working and I’m not tech savvy enough to fix it, although I presume it is not to hard." And I was wondering if it's a good deal and if so if it's easy to fix the bios.

Its safe as it isnt gonna hurt you, if thats what you mean. If you wonna buy a dead card, what the seller says wont matter. Results will most likely be the same.

Sounds a lot like it's truely broken and they're just saying it's a BIOS to make it sound like it's an easy fix.

Then again, for $50 it's not a huge loss, but I wouldn't hold out hope of fixing it. Unless it has dual BIOS, you're probably not going to be able to fix it if you need to ask how it's done.

The card does have dual bios and I read that you can get a good bios on techpowerup and use AMDVbFlash to flash the new bios on your card

Assuming the seller didn't brick both bios which he probably did and how is unloading a paperweight.

Can't you use integrated graphics or another hour instead?

You can take a gamble on both BIOSes not being borked, but if the seller's been messing with the BIOS, he probably knows enought to know that it has two. That's also assuming it's actually the BIOS that borked. They may just be saying it's the BIOS to make it seem easier to fix.

So this card is a dual bios card. The seller knew enougg to mess with the bios so if they messed up 2 there is A LOT more wrong.

That or the card is broken ij a different way and they are just saying bios because thats the easiest excuse.

Dont get it unless you are ok with burning 50$.

I wish people would just send me $50, instead of wasting it like this.  I'd at least thank them and appreciate them.

Can you return it at all?  Ebay protection perhaps?  Credit card protections?

Ok so bricked card with all bios bricked. There is an easy way to solve it.

You will have to get te commands because I can t recall them

But if you put the bricked card on slot 1 and good card on slot 0 you will boot from card 0 and then flash card 1. Thats how I did it in the past

Is it wort the effort though???? Perfectly working RX580s go for like $100. Why going into all the trouble and risking your entire system health for a $50?? If you are just curious about resurrecting GPUs and wanna have fun with it, while exploring to learn something, or if you wanna practice your soldering skills and you have a system you intended to torture, then go ahead and have fun.

But if you wanna use it as an everyday GPU, nothing is "|great" about that "deal". There are even working RX580s for $60, just not the models anyone wants.
