Hi all-

I am looking at upgrading my headphones.  I want something that has more bass than what I currently have.  I currently have a pair of Sony WH-XB900Ns.  I got them 2 years ago.  I like them a lot but I find the bass lacking sometimes and I have the "Extra Bass" function cranked to 10.  I also have a pair of Skully Candy Crusher Wireless' but the Bass on those just sounds so artificial since it's using haptics.  It also doesn't work all the time, sometimes it totally cuts out.

I was looking at the Sony WH-1000XM5's but I heard some people say the Bass isn't that great on them also they are quite pricey, so if I am spending that much on something I want it to be perfect.

I need something that has really good noise canceling too as I want to be able to wear them on flights or when I study also.  Wireless is also a must have and USB-C charging is preferred but not a must.

If anyone has any good recommendations let me know

Alright sounds like I will be staying with the Sony WH-XB900Ns for a bit longer.  I read a lot of bad reviews too about people being disappointed with the XM5s.

Thanks everyone!

One of those things have to give.

Headphones with good bass aren't wireless

Noice cancelling headphones don't typically have the best sound quality, etc.

Typically headphones don't offer "sub-bass" which is probably what you are seeking, I have even bought "bassy" headphones and thought..... man there just isn't much bass here.

What listening levels do you typically go with?  For higher levels I find that my dt880-600 and t50rp can pound my brains into submission but that also has a rather expensive chain behind it.  But it's more like being at a concert with loud arse speakers in front of you.

For lower listening levels the Rode NTH-100 (gawd I must be a shill for rode by now) are probably the best all-around headphones I own.  They are easy to drive and sound good on just about anything, very opaque? (Opposite of a transparent headphone I guess) meaning that they don't reflect the quality or lack thereof pushing them, they can still improve but it's more subtle.  Also, the bass is abundant but doesn't wash everything out like some beats would not to mention they do everything else really well.  Just don't expect sub bass perse because headphones just don't do that.  I broke my nth-100's and sent them in for RMA so I hope to hear back from them soon.  Was 100% my fault because I jumped on a pillow on my bed that they were under, now I only use cheap headphones in bed.  But they have a solid build no doubt.  I'm gonna geek out when I get them back.

Oh and one quick and cheap way to improve bass response is to add protein pads to your headphones

Audio go Brrrrrr
