Phone upgrade time

So, time for a new phone. I was wondering what you guys would pick between the following:

• Samsung S22+ $650
• Samsung S22 Ultra $735
• Pixel 7 Pro $545
• Pixel 7 $300

I mostly use my phone for browsing, bidding on auctions, and email. There's occasional photography and navigation. No music or media consumption. 

 

I'm kind of leaning towards the Pixel 7, as much as I'd miss the Samsung UI. The Pixel 7 Pro is at the bottom of my list as it has the worst battery life. 

 

Currently coming from an S20 FE. 

 

I'd love to hear some opinions though.

What about the Nord line from OnePlus?  If you use your phone for what you say, you can get by with 15 year old tech even   You don't need a $500+ phone.

Not available from the carrier. I also don't really like OnePlus, and I like smooth experiences, something budget phones don't really excel at.

I can get a new phone at a great price now, so I might as well since I need to renew my contract. I'll also get the most amount of money by selling the S20, which will only lose value going forward.

Recently bought the Pixel 6a. If I'm honest I prefer the 3a it replaced due to a normal screen without notch or holepunch & it having a headphone jack...

 

...but the extra (and way faster) storage is definitely a big upgrade, and I do like the themed icons and dynamic wallpaper options that remind me of the moving backgrounds available on very early Android versions. I've also had zero issues with the in-screen fingerprint sensor despite using a glass screen protector on it, neither can I see any trace of the sensor during normal use. I still prefer back or side mounted sensors but it works and isn't distracting in any way. Pictures remain good, though there's no obvious upgrade in quality vs the 3a (though it's excellent for a $300 phone, which is what I paid for it).

 

With the 7 being a better version of the 6a but with wireless charging, I'd go with that for $300. The Pro is overpriced and even though you can get it for $545, the difference in price vs the 7 is still way too big to justify the extra $245, let alone $300 for anyone not trading in their old phone.

It would still hold good value the next time its replaced, because its a Pixel and will be supported with updates for quite a while

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking as well. I use my phone a ton, but it's mostly bidding, email, text, and GPS. Photos are pretty heavily used, but I should be using my Canon.

Yeah, I always thought the low grade storage on the A series phones was an odd choice.

I've decided on the 7. I'll probably grab an S24 Ultra/iPhone in a couple of years. I have a good chunk of money being dumped into a couple of ventures so the little bit of savings make more sense.
