Thoughts on going team red (Any feedback)

So I'm planning to upgrade my gpu which is a GTX 1650 OC edition (don't ask I bought it when prices were mad high.)

Originally i was gonna stick with team green and go for a RTX 3060

but after some further research i have found that the rx 6600xt offers about the same level of performance for a way more competitive price.       also what is the real performance drop off between the 6600xt and normal 6600?
but also i have heard from some of my radeon using friends a while back that the gpu's had have loads of bugs and the software isn't nice and all like GeForce experience. again this was a while ago
so any suggestions from Radeon users on how it is now because price is a big constraint for me and if i can save i really want to.

also not sure if their will be any compatibility issues like wattage and stuff with my specs so please let me know.

Specs:

  • CPU
    AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
  • Motherboard
Asus ROG Strix B55-f gaming wifi
  • RAM
G.Skill Trident neo rgb 16gb dual channel 2x8gb
  • GPU
    GTX 1650 OC edition
  • Case
    Gamdias Argus E4
  • Storage
m.2 nvme 256GB silicon power boot drive
    SATA SSD 1TB crucial
  • PSU
    Corsair CX650m

any suggestions in general are appreciated

Your friend is spouting hot garbage, AMD's user experience is top notch these days and you won't have issues with either card. These days they're almost neck in neck when it comes to driver bugs

For reference, I currently daily a 6900 XT.

AMD drivers have come a long was in the past ~3 years. In 2019 they were borderline unusable, today they're pretty rock solid for gaming situations. There is still a little bit of quirkiness with them, the in driver updater (similar to GeForce Experience driver update notifications) doesn't work in my experience and requires a DDU and clean install, there was a period of time where hardware acceleration in Chrome was broken, but nothing that takes super long to get used to, and the performance difference is well worth it. Once the drivers are setup, for just a gaming system you won't notice a difference between the AMD card and a Nvidia card.

There is an equivalent, IIRC it's called AMD ReLive, but it's not something I bothered to setup on Nvidia or AMD so I can't really commend on whether it's as good or worse. You'd have to ask someone else who does use that, I could test it but given I don't really know what it's "supposed" to be with a Nvidia card I could't tell you how it compares.

AMD is quite good now. But don't trust me, most of my GPU-s since 2002 were ATI/AMD Radeons.

AMD recording options are OK, not sure if they still call it ReLive. I use Outplayed (from Overwolf) to capture my game highlights, and OBS Studio for streaming.

yeah i would do that to if amd didn't have anything good but there is just that assurance every time that the recording was well encoded when its from the gpu it self.
cause some times i found my outplayed recordings have been corrupted

My tip is to not think of team red/green, but just to buy the best value card that suits your needs.

As others mentioned, drivers are a non-issue with AMD. They’re not perfect, but none are & shouldn’t be the reason not to consider the GPU they’re made for.
