So recently I went down to a device pitstop and picked up a custom built pc that they had made, and it contained a i7 6700k, ga z170x ud5, gtx 960 4gb, 120 gb ssd, and a1tb hdd. It was around 370 dollars usd with tax. Was it worth it (be honest)?

Depends what for? Esports it’ll do alright at 1080p as long as you don’t expect Hugh settings. The platform is outdated with no upgrade path, the CPU is slow and the GPU isn’t worth much at all. But it depends what you’re planning on doing with it

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

The value really depends on what you want to use it for. If you primarily play old games (pre-2016) then I'd say it's a good deal since you are getting decent performance for those games without overspending. It is on a dead platform and there isn't much you can do to upgrade it outside of changing the GPU but for the price it's more than fair. For modern games it will definitely struggle, especially on 4 cores with the more demanding games but what's most important is how much use you get out of it.

I hope this puts your mind at ease if you were concerned and I wish you a great day/night.

Cheers! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Make sure to overclock that 6700k to ~4.8g, max safe volt 1.45v same for vccsa/io though ideal volt ~1.25-1.35v atleast for efficiency aka best v/f ratio. If it has terrible temps even with a decent cooler then you need to delid but thats as simple as using a thin razor (can be found in those generic shavers by just destructively taking em apart) and cutting the glue that attatches the ihs to the cpu substrate, liquid metal is ideal but thermal paste will still be far better than that 6 year old dried garbage tim

Hmm. Well, for $370 I would have expected a slightly better GPU, probably a 1060 6gb or RX580, but you didn’t do horribly. Most important is that you have fun gaming on it, then it’s worth every penny.

$370 for used, okay i guess. With all the inflation nowadays, $370 in 2022 has the purchasing power of only $314.5 back in 2020

Although considering how much a GPU cost back in 2020, that’s entirely negated LMAO

Should be fine then dude just don’t expect high settings. The GPU is the weak point and is an easy upgrade if you want more performance. Upgrading the COU would be a whole platform swap
