Hi guys,

i recently built my pc and my problem is that my cpu AMD ryzen 5 5600g can reach 3200mhz and my RAM is 3600mhz. I know i can set them to 3200mzh in bios but i don't know exactly how. My mobo is GIGABYTE B550m DS3H. Does anyone have any idea of how to do that (timings, voltage etc)?

Thank you!

Are you going by the official spec on AMD's website, or is your CPU actually struggling to do 3600MT/s? The 5600G has one of the best DDR4 memory controllers you can have, and basically every chip should be able to clock memory upwards of 5000MT/s on a good motherboard.

If you do want to clock it down for whatever reason, your best bet is to enable XMP and just set the memory frequency to 3200MT/s, that will keep the rated timings for the kit and will be 100% stable, but at the same time the 5600G really loves fast RAM and I don't see the point in limiting your performance artificially.

reset the bios and then just use XMP

Dont change anything else see if it boots.

3600 shouldn't be a problem at all... the 3200 from AMD is more a guaranteed speed it can do, and even that isnt actually guaranteed.

FCLK at 3200 is complete nonsense either way (because it should be half  of that for 3200 RAM as its DDR which stands for "Double Data Rate")

So just use XMP, its really simple your mobo will know the right settings.

ps: the way to do this is

-set XMP (it'll most likely be 3600 as that's what your ram is rated)

- exit and safe

- yes

- the system will automatically reboot with the new settings

I found out after i bought them because my system was misbehaving (screen, mouse and keyboard was turning off and pc needed restart) and after a research i found out it was the RAM.

in all likelihood, this probably wasn't due to ram speeds. did you actually confirm that it was running at 3600mhz?  because it shouldn't,  at default it should be running at 2133mhz or something in that ballpark.  thats why XMP exists so you can run at the rated speed, but XMP is off by default,  so unless someone set it already your ram was not running at that speed.

I've already done this. I enabled XMP to set my ram speed at 3600mhz and that's when my system was failing. This happened 2 times and both of these times I had XMP enabled (RAM on 3600mhz). At first I thought my RAM was faulty but on a forum they said it's because I'm using more speed than my CPU can take. I also found some people with the same problem as me with the 5600g and 3600mhz ram that's why I assumed it's the speed.

Specifically, this happened when i was gaming and alt tabbed some times between discord, game, spotify, chrome.

oh ok that wasn't clear to me from the description... anyways I'd reset the BIOS and then set the RAM to XMP and manually change just the frequency to 3200...  it *should* work then honestly.

You should ditch that ram and buy some that is on the mobo QVL. That CPU can push FCLK/MCLK way higher than 3200. Think ~2300 1:1, maybe more on a good day.

I too am running ram on my 5600X system that is not on the QVL, and all I can do is 1600/3200. I know this CPU can do 2100 1:1 because I have benched it there many times. And when I plug some B-Die in I can slide into my 2000 1:1 settings like nothing ever happened.

My poor machine 😞

Luckily my son gets to use it 😄

yeah i didn't even check the qvl... i just *knew* it's gonna work ; D

i set FCKL freq at 3200mhz

i already tried to explain it, you should just set the dram frequency,  not FCLK and if you were to set FCLK it needs to be 1600 or *half* of your dram frequency,  because  its *double data* RAM.

FCLK 3200 would never work on DDR4 RAM... I kinda think that's your whole issue at this point. Just set the XMP then the RAM frequency to 3200 and leave everything else alone... FCLK should be on auto, it will adjust itself...

The FCLK is the speed of the memory controller, the Infinity Fabric and actually the RAM memory, however the RAM memory is read twice per cycle and therefore FCLK of 1600 is DDR@3200 speed

Thank you for everything guys. Unfortunately my RAM is not listed in my mobo's qvl. I don't know much about pcs i thought fclk freq is the dram frequency i'm stupid 😅 I'll set it for now at 3200mhz and consider to buy some new ones. Thank you again!!!

no problem,  and well i think if you do what i and others suggested it should still work, but there's really no guarantee for it.

So

-reset bios

-xmp (maybe theres already a 3200 option then choose that)

- if there isnt just select 3200 dram manually

- save and reboot

So.. From all that i've read though, that all sounds pretty weird though, I mean, technically it shouldn't still be the ram because if your ram was faster than the cpu recommended ram speed, then your actual cpu would still be able to use only what it could handle even if your ram was faster. But, I can agree it could be a problem for all that I know. And if you can enable xmp, then if your ram really is 3600 and you wanted 3200, it would then set it to only 3600, unless for whatever reason somehow you can still set it to 3200 somehow and it be doing that, I don't know. You shouldn't have to buy new ram, That I wouldn't do, just that you shouldn't be having to though, but damn, huhh..
