Help Upgrading or rebuilding APU

Izec

Budget (including currency): $330

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General browsing/computing, Discord, Minecraft, Dota 2, (would be nice - Raft, Wreckfest)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

This PC does still currently run but cannot run any games besides minecraft on lowest settings.

I'm wondering if I should use parts I have (listed below) or find an old workstation and upgrade that (like LTT video: https://youtu.be/YLC9rZ2e0Ms )

Current PC Parts:

CPU: AMD A6-5400K - A6 Series Trinity Dual-Core 3.6 GHz Socket FM2 65W AMD Radeon HD 7540D Desktop APU

MB: BIOSTAR Hi-Fi A85S3 FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX

Case: Rosewill R218-P-BK-450W MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case

PSU: 450W Power Supply ^^^^ (was included with the case)

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin PC RAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

HD: I already have a 128GB TOSHIBA and 500GB Seagate Desktop HDD ST500DM002

Extras: XIGMATEK FCB (Fluid Circulative Bearing) Cooling System Crystal Series CLF-F1454 140mm White LED Case Fan (front fan)

I've considered looking for upgraded chip within same socket but it seems limited. And I'm not sure if getting a GPU would really increase speeds. I also recently found the site jawa.gg and was considering one of the low cost options there.

Any guidance or help is greatly appreciated!

You can invest your whole budget into a GPU, then save up to upgrade everything else. Your PC is so old that literally no one thing that can be upgraded without upgrading everything else.

CPU: Intel core i7-8086K Case: CORSAIR Crystal 570X RGB CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO RGB Storage: Samsung 980 Pro - 2TB NVMe SSD PSU: EVGA 1000 GQ, 80+ GOLD 1000W, Semi Modular GPU: MSI Radeon RX 580 GAMING X 8G RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 3200mhz Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E Gaming

With 330, you may be able to pick up a used low end gaming PC on a place like eBay or FB marketplace. If this was an AM3 socket I could see a few creature comfort upgrades, but FM2 is such an old socket that it's time to start fresh.

Rx 470 $100

B450 $50

1600 50 (see if you can get the stock cooler with it if possible, if not: +$15)

Case: can be reused

PSU: would probably replace ($60)

Ram: 16gb ddr4 ($45-50 used or new)

Total: $325-350.
