I am at the end of my temper about 5 boots from just taking my hammer and giving my pc a damn good thrashing!

So I have an I7 7700k water cooled 32gb 2400mhz ram 1660 super graphics card and a 165hz monitor.

I play on a few games fortnite being one of them and when playing fortnite my gpu load is under 35% most of the time and cpu load is around 60% the only problem is fps can drop as low as 40 but usage is still low.

I have tried replacing the psu (currently 600w).

Checked temps for thermal throttling

checked power settings in nvidia

checked power settings in windows

I have maxed settings on dx11 dx12 and performance mode but this gives low fps or does nothing (in performance)

I am losing my mind i just cant work out what is wrong

doers anyone have a way to force the gpu to run at max? (nvidia has such a setting but its not working)

thanks for any help!

Ah yes this is the third format as I installed a new 1tb SSD and it seems to have always performed like this, the monitor was the last thing bought so never noticed the drops before.

I just can't get my head around the gpu usage being so low and then getting FPS drops too.

Nvidia control panel is set to max performance and that didn't help.

Not really sure if there is a problem. I've noticed some of these games have funny numbers, even though they are functioning properly. Frame rate drops are normal during gaming. In the pictures you've provided, the frame rates are pretty high and your GPU temps indicate it's functioning properly.

I'm seeing from YouTube videos that frame rates can be high, even though CPU and GPU usage is moderate, when you have low graphical settings.

You say you've maxed out settings and it reduces your frames, which is normal, but you don't explain what happens with the CPU or GPU usage with higher graphics settings. You should expect to see the GPU usage jump with higher settings.

Also, try a AAA title say from Ubisoft or something that is really going to stress the GPU and watch the usage numbers. Several people have been complaining on LTT forums about Fortnite, valorant, LOL, and a few other popular games from the funny usage numbers. These aren't games I play, but I also have a post about GPU usage and it's basically a number that is reported by the GPU from my research. There isn't a definite "this is how it's determined" method. So it's a black box number that you're trying to analyze.

GPU usage never hits above 80% it's like the card gets to 7*% usage and just says screw it I'm dropping the FPS. That's why I thought maybe a power issue and swapped PSU.

Oh and the dropping FPS hits as low as 10 it's got that bad 20 mins ago I took it apart cleaned the dust out and added thermal paste.

I then played a game and it seemed to improve just not by much, look at the hot spot temps.
