Upgrading?

Ok. So what GPU should I get then? The 6600? Also, I think the reason why Coolmaster is saying this is because I've heard that UserBenchmark is biased toward some brands in some way. Is this the reason why, @Coolmaster?

EDIT: Just saw Deadyog's response

Yes, you should still look hard at the 6600.  Realistically, nothing in that price range ($200) is going to come out soon.  They're releasing the flagships for us to jerk off to, the midrange stuff is months out still.

The 6600xt, used under $200 or new for $220, is about the best deal going right now.

I've got a reliable old Asus M32AD (i7-4790 version) That has an after purchase Asus Phoenix OC 1650 GTX that has served me well, but is starting to show it's limitations as I push it more day after day. I'm thinking of upgrading to a EVGA KO 2060, is this a good idea?

Full specs:

  • i7-4790
  • Asus H10M-E
  • Corsair CX750M

I do 1920X1080, I like to have my games at around 60 FPS, and I play most of them on medium, however if I'm feeling lucky I might turn the settings up a little. 🙂

6600 is better at the same or cheaper price, used ebay 6600 can go <200$ and thats gtx 1080 level performance

I've thought about the 6600, but most of the time I prefer NVIDIA simply because I'm more familiar with it, but some time I might get into AMD parts. Sorry of this creates complications. 🙂 Also, you said that the 6600 is GTX 1080 performance? Isn't that less than my current card?

Wow! That's incredible! Could you possibly explain to me why it performs better than a higher card? Sorry, I'm a bit of a newbie 😅

You have a 50 level card, vs the 80 level.   The 1650 represents a really bad naming convention, it's like a generation between 1000 and 2000 but it's still a 50 level.  One generation up won't catch up to a mass power difference the 80 represents.

Think of it like a 325I BMW vs a 135I.  Higher tier car, much smaller engine.  Not the best analogy but should get the point across.

GTX 16 series cards are value cards, so they are only faster than approximately half of the GTX 10 series cards,

GTX 16 series cards are entry-mid range cards, GTX 1080 was a high end card

and like @Dedayog said, the numbers at the end tell the card's range, while first 2 tell the generation/series

and that's why:

RTX 3060 a card that is 2 generations above GTX 1080,

is slower than the 1080, because it has 60 while the other has 80; https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3060-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/4105vs3603

and the reason why is because 3060 is a low-mid range card,

but 3070 is faster than 1080, because 70 is only two jumps away from 80 + it's 2 generations newer: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3070-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/4083vs3603

that's because 3070 is mid-high end + better architecture,

sorry if it still sounds complicated.

You shouldn't use userbenchmark. It is openly biased and has a bad benchmark. Look at actual reviews that show the performance of the card, I find EuroGamer is good since their reviews show comparisons with similar cards with lots of games and different resolutions.

I understand. 😅 I've seen a lot of weird naming and ranking in all sorts of computer components. It's funny, because I was actually thinking of getting a 3060 previously 😅 Do you think I could get a Amazon link to a good deal on a 6600 or a 1080?

Biased?

so ur saying the "200k" and "1milion" of benchmarks for 3060 and 1080 are biased?

and even if they are, it is good for an approximate comparison,

I look at the 3060 vs 1080 again, and in some areas the 3060 is winning, which is pretty obvious given that it has 2x more CUDA cores than 1080,

does that mean it gives 2x fps? no, it gives like 10-20% depending on the game..

Scratch the 1080, it's 2 generations old, while it could still work you're better off getting a new GPU anyway,

even if the 1080 was faster, it is still old

and I think you want to play some newer games too, which would dip under 50fps on 1080

Biased as in UserBenchmarks weights things differently than generally accepted for example...

Ok, thanks! 😁
