A Buddy of mine is looking to upgrade and gifting me this router.  Nighthawk by Netgear.

 

what are the best settings for a optimization of a multi use household?

Also enable IPv6 if it's not enabled (usually not), it's an extra layer of redundancy and can sometimes improve performance depending on your ISP.
