Balls to the wall, 4090, 7950x, build

Budget (including currency): $6000 if possible, $7000 max ,$AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:
I mod Halo 3 (Halo 3 New Covenant campaign on youtube) and so I need it to do engine work, lots of compiling, and the lightmap baking is multi-threaded and can take days at a time (cpu only too) (also uses lots of ram), I also create custom cinematics through Blender so I'm rendering tens of thousands of frames for those. On top of that the generic AAA games, Cyperpunk, Red Dead 2 etc. Also some pretty intense Audio mixing of short movies, bands or Orchestras for work so lots of plugins and lots of large audio files playing at once.

Other details:

PC part picker link (screenshot attached too): https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/ywwGtn

I run a Dell 27" 4K 60hz monitor and occasionally a second 1080p 60hz for production work ease. Will look at a 4K 120/144hz QD-OLED in the coming years

I have plenty of SSD storage I will migrate over so not fussed about that.
No peripherals needed.

Looking to buy from now (Been saving for 3 years yeesh)

My Current PC (Built in 2012 (yes 2012 with a couple upgrades)), it is on it's last legs and can hardly operate with my modding now (oddly still holds up for most games at medium to high 1440p).
Intel i7 2600k 3.4Ghz

Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 Motherboard
16GB 1666mhz vengeance CL9

GTX 1080 8GB
SSD 2.5" drives

Worries about this build:
Enough fans for addacuate airflow?

the Motherboard I've spec'd is a b560E, what would be the pros to going to the 670xE? Do I really need it? I'm guessing I'd need an E motherboard to take the PCI Gen 5 of the 4090 yeah?

Ram wise I want 64GB but would it kill if I went a lower mhz at like 5200 and save a buck?

Thanks for any help!! So much money I don't want to make any dumb mistakes!! 🙂

5000D is a larger 4000D.

But I think Lian Li LANCOOL III is a way better deal than 5000D, comes with 4 good quality PWM fans that do not need to be replaced.

For sure double check the gpu clearance, a lot of times the clearance is without a fan mounted at the front. 5000D seems like a good option indeed.

Total of 1 TB storage seems a bit on the smaller side for this budget.

Going for 5200 is fine for now, good chance it won't run higher anyway. Though having the 6000 and being able to up the speed after a bios update after a while might be worth it if the price difference is not that huge.

I'd get a PCIe 5.0 board indeed, though it probably won't really matter too much. The price difference is too small to not get it on this budget I'd say.

Maybe go water cooling for the CPU. The NH-D15 might not be enough for the 7950x

That looks like a great choice! Saves me a buck too for a 1200W PSU, updated the part picker link

I've seen some tests between the NH-D15 and water cooling, only a couple degrees difference, I'd rather not have the hassle or risk of a leak, pricier too 😞

With the ram, I could go for 5200 but the response is 15ns as to the 10ns for the current ram selected, I wonder if that would be noticeable in anything? Would it be a little less snappy?

It is more than enough. Techpowerup did some extensive testing taking a 420mm rad vs a SINGLE TOWER noctua air cooler and while an AIO does help a little bit it's never going to be noticeable in most tasks. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-7950x-cooling-requirements-thermal-throttling/

I wasnt talking about AIOs, I know they are mostly as good/bad as high end air coolers. I was talking about a full custom loop, which could actually get lower temps/noise levels. But I understand if you dont want to deal with the extra price/hassle. Its just something I would do, if I spent so much money on a PC

Zotac recommends a 1000W PSU for the RTX 4090. Since Nvidia recommends 850W for a stock RTX 4090, I doubt there is a need for more than 1000W. Consider a Phanteks Amp 1000W or Corsair RM1000X.

I expect lightmap baking is particularly memory intensive. Given that AMD recommends DDR5-6000 as the sweet spot for 7000 CPU, opting for lower speed memory might well impact performance noticeably in this activity.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Depends Nvidia recommends 850W but some AIB list 850,1000 and 1200.  Out of the box the cards top off between 450-500W.  Seeing how much power the 7950x uses though I would do 1000 minimum.

That memory is horribly overpriced. But besides that a good build. I would perhaps go with a 360mm AIO with Noctua A12s or Phanteks T30s on it. Definitely get cheaper ram though that is insane.

The Lancool III will be perfect for 4090. It's really large. It's really awesome. I have one

Eteknix on Youtube benchmarked 12th gen Intel and Ryzen 7K with 5200 and 6000 ddr5 using games @ 1080p and synthetic benchmarks, obviously, because there aren't any other use cases. For what it's worth, the 7900x and the 12900k benefited the most. Will YOU notice a difference? I really don't know. Canned benchmarks and 1080p gaming don't paint a clear picture, but, since you have some very hardcore use cases, faster ram will help you squeeze out every last drop of performance from your cpu.

As for the 4090, the 4080 16GB (and rdna3) is just around the corner; it's smaller, costs less, uses less power, and will absolutely destroy anything you throw at it. You could use the extra savings to get more ram and storage.

so the 1200W power supply only costs like $50 more so I'll do that to have plenty of head room anyway
