Laptop morherboard swap?

My sons laptop died on him! The day before it died he noticed he wasn't getting xbox notifications.. And he noticed his time and date was wrong.. He changed it and no problems.. The next day he went from Minecraft to youtube and it just went black.. I thought because of the time and date thing maybe it was the cmos battery.. But that did nothing.. Watched a ton of youtube and tried everything.. So i took it to a pro.. He told me that the cpu was fried because whoever repaired it previously did not put some kind of chip or regulator thing to prevent too much current to the cpu.. Which fried it.. Now my question is.. Can i swap out the motherboard and just replace it? I found one on alibaba but im afraid to throw away 500 for nothing. Also can i swap it out for a potentially better motherboard/cpu/gpu?

His laptop is a Asus rog strix gl503ge.

Any help or advice would ve greatly appreciated!

Thanks, TJ

You can buy thr laptop for less again used. Or spend a couple hundreds more for a better new one.

Either way dont waste money on a new board its too risky
