The RTX 4090 being bigger than the series S

Virtex
Go to solution Solved by Zando_,

(Given Linus has review samples I doubt you need to tag him to let him know how large the cards are)

But yeah, 4090 big. If you can afford the card you can afford the case to fit it, I think it's a bit fuckin goofy they're that massive but eh, I was never in the market for one anyways (and if I was I'd be putting it on water, making cooler size irrelevant and PCB size the only concern).

My thoughts  I think that the 4090 is incredibly oversized due to most cases either not being able to fit or even worse yet hold the weight of the card which means not only one kidney will be sold but two which from my knowledge tells me your gonna need allot of income to be able to pay for this GPU its upside is that we will see even greater movies and games in the future due to its creative capability'sImage

I think this v12 is too big, it won't fit in my honda civic.

That is an idiotic comparison. He was giving the Series S as an example of the size, not as something he would want to put the 4090 in. It wouldn't work anyways, given that there is no PCIe slot, and no drivers. It's more like saying:

"This v10 doesn't fit in my Lamborghini, that used to be able to fit the best v10s available to consumers today" Which is dumb (on nVidias part, not the user's).

I was not speaking of the series S.

This new v10 doesn't fit in last years lambo. that was able to hold last years v10.

Specifics like that start getting into semantics, which is where the analogy starts to break down, but at least you acknowledge the Honda Civic comparison was idiotic, especially given this

(yes, it isn't a Civic, but it's close enough)

It's not idiotic. The complaint is that a bleeding edge high power device won't fit in existing cases that were not designed for it. Yes you can make stuff work, but just like with a car, it can require extension modification or jank to make it work.

Your video proves my point further, especially if you have experience working on cars. it is a monumental task and nobody expects it to work out of the box, it also requires replacing a huge amount of ancillary components, and spending a lot of time and money.

The task is in fact so difficult that it justifies making videos about it.

Psh, FE is tiny.

Funny thing yesterday, I had to take pause for a second and look up if a theoretical AIB 4090 like that Aorus Master would even fit in my full size Torrent. The fact that I even had that thought was hilarious. Either way, bring on the power, i'm here for it.

Good lord that is stupid. Can we just go back to the days of my 1070 AMP where THAT was considered a large card (amusingly it's larger than my Strix 2080) because man... This shit dumb. If cards don't start getting back down to around the length + height of what I have now, I'm pretty much SOL on shoving it in my case.

I get it but.. were you in the market for a 4090 in the first place?

Strictly speaking I'm not in the market for anything right now, but when the time is right it'll be whatever 80-series card is current. And let's be honest, they're not going to be any smaller next generation.

The PCB is smaller than on the 3090.

Guess there’s enough space for enlargement on for the 5090.

Yeah these cards are ridiculously large, and heavy enough that some of the AIB versions come with a support bracket, but its Nvidia people will buy them anyway, and the people buying a 4090 won't care they'll need a new PSU and case.

It just isn't a good analogy, engine swaps are a difficult task especially when you're putting in an engine the car wasn't made for.

I thinks its kinda dumb when a graphics card is so massive that it doesn't fit into an average sized ATX case, Nvidia is going way past what should be the size of a GPU.

Nvidia made a V12 when the market wants a nice V8, the 40 series is overpriced because everything moved up a tier to make the 4090 look cheaper.

I just measured about 17 inches before I hit my radiator.  It looks like all the cards are under 14.1in.  TBH though I'm leaning towards either the FE which is slightly smaller or the Suprim LC.

BTW I only have 17in because I removed the  3.5in bays and the radiator and fans are only about 2-3in thick.
