best option for windows reinstall on CPU upgrade

Hey guys, I am about to upgrade from an I7-2600k to a Ryzen 7 5700x  and I am wondering what is the best way to deal with windows reinstall while also keeping my files, my current plan is to unplug my storage drives except the windows SSD and use a windows ISO on a usb for a reinstall. does this sound like the best course of action? 


CPU Intel I7-4700MQ @2.4 ghz, turbos to 3.4 

Motherboard  whatever toshiba put in the thing

RAM 8GB 1600mhz 

GPU  Nvidia Geforce GT 740M  

Storage 750Gb 5400rpm   

Cooling  Crappy laptop fan 

Operating System  windows 8 64 bit

Yep. Copy over everything you wanna keep to those other drives, then make sure they are unplugged so you don't accidentally format. That's how I have done it, and plan to do it when I rebuild my PC coming up here soon, it's the best method if you're keeping data drives. 

 

Also congrats! That's gonna be a hell of an upgrade, current Ryzens are very nice chips.
