It's on ebay the buyer is trusted and it costs about 100$ less than a new one... Should I get it or just buy a new one? (Sapphire r9 280x)

The thing you want to look out for when buying used AMD GPU's is the fact they may have been used for mining.

i will say buy it  :)

but you need keep in mind that all the R9 2xx line is normally OC by their owners (or/and mining also)

add to that that some owners do insane OC just to push the limits (like me lol)

with all that in mind, i think @LinusTech also like buy second hands cards (i think so  not sure)

and i will do it in my case, but i know the risk that take when i do that ^_^

(and all cases are different on this grey area)

Probably die really quick, if used for mining wouldn't trust it.

I wouldn't go for a sapphire Dual-X one. I would go for an Asus DCUII. I have seen ALOT of 280x (mining) and alot of Sapphire dual-x and gigabyte OC are bad apples. I have 11 Asus DCUII running though, and they are just reliable as f***. MSI Gaming also seem pretty solid.

So much this. :D

Many people beat the shit out of their AMD cards before selling. I wouldn't trust it, espeically not a R9 280X, because mining of course...

I bought a GTX 580 used and i have no problems with it what so ever, but AMD... only if i knew i wouldn't keep it for long.

who cares...

Oh please, every graphics card made over the last 100000000 years has been susceptible to such problems.

I bought a second hand 280X (Gigabyte, Windforce) last week. Still waiting for it to arrive. I purchased it for about $150 cheaper than it would be in the shops, keeping my entire build well under $1000 AUD. :)

I really don't think there's anything wrong with a second hand mining card. It's silly just to assume that because they've been run at load for an extended period of time that they're suddenly just going to die on you. They're designed to work hard, and as long as the ex. owner has taken care of the card (i.e. cooling, undervolting etc..) I really don't see an issue with it. Still, have some common sense when buying. As I said, make sure it has been looked after and make sure all warranty information is intact. Mine should be here in a couple of days so I'll be able to judge it first hand for myself then.

I won't be convinced otherwise until someone can produce conclusive statistics which show cards are more likely to die after mining.

Best of luck.
