Intel Server Board S2600GZ 2600 v2 Support?

The revisions is just for the document itself, update your BIOS and it'll add the v2 CPU support.

So I wrongly assumed that the S2600GZ would just boot with 2600 v2 CPUs (specifically a 2667 v2) but no.

Now I'm trying to figure out if I can get it working, on Intel ARK it shows the S2600GZ is compatible with v2 CPUs:

However I found a technical product specification PDF that mentions revision numbers where rev 2.0 adds support for v2 CPUs:
image.png.ed3da46010bc308b688358ba2980c843.png

I don't know if this is referring to revision of the PDF or the board itself, the wording makes it seem like it's the PDF.

I was able to find this: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19271/firmware-update-package-update-for-efi-intel-server-boards-and-intel-server-systems-based-on-intel-60x-chipset.html

I'll probably try it later and see.

Any other Ideas as to why v2 CPUs wouldn't boot?

why no dark mode?

i think it MIGHT boot cuz E3-16/26/46## series xeons use same chipset, both v1 and v2.

It should just need a BIOS update. I know the PowerEdge R620/R720  just needed a BIOS update to support v2 CPUs, and they were also built around the C602 chipset.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I believe E5-26XX V1 & V2 also use the same chipset, C602.

I pulled the 2667 V2 CPUs from an R720 (which uses the C602 Chipset).

For gaming I would go with the 10105f, single threaded performance on 26XX Xeons aren't great.

The revisions is just for the document itself, update your BIOS and it'll add the v2 CPU support.

updating the BIOS worked, for anyone else how happens to stumble upon this thread I could not get the system to even boot in recovery mode (jumper on the board), it just immediately failed with the 4 beep code.

You can flash the BIOS without recvovery mode set though and that worked fine.

Also, if anyone has issues with fans running full speed the board NEEDS 2 CPUs installed to not run the fans a full speed.

Why? I don't fucking know but it's annoying, I was hoping to just run 1 CPU as this system is acting as a pfSense router and doesn't need 16 cores but I'm either stuck with maximum fan speed (which is 15k RPM) or leaving both CPUs in and dealing with extra power draw.....

I have 2cpu Xeon E5  2667v2 with 512gb ddr3 1866 ECC on C602 s2600 sg.

I put cooling profile to acoustic and even with heavy load rarely fan are working about 10% of max RPM.

I found that was important to replace thermal grease each year otherwise cooling are not efficient and uniform. pads are less efficient.

image.png.fcaebb1d19d02db2fb41dfbb69198788.png

Reported CPU benchmark for 2 cpus is 20800, single cpu 12700, compare real price I got 55euro=2 for both cpu 2667v2 2x8x16.

Do not forget huge cost of DDR4 ram compare to DDR3 1866 and count of Ram slot for I3-10X and C602 (24 slots in my case 16 used).

Similar configuration will cost 7-20 times more and will be 2,3x times slower.

For the cost of I3-10X +RAM is more interesting to find used IBM Power 8 2x16x128 u will have 13x-19x faster (450 euro w/o ram 48slots).

Therefore i was not able to put fan to very low rotation speed even at low CPU charge, and temp <25 and I did it electronic way when temperature above 35c

motherboard gain again full control on the coolers.
