I guarantee you that a 12600k won't bottleneck a 4090, but if you're looking for as much future proof as you can get, then get am5. Should have more than enough upgradibility since it should be upgraded for more than 5 years or so

Agreed, from the reviews I've seen so far the top-end AMD and Intel are a huge waste of money for gaming.

I got a 5950X earlier in the year for a similar reason.  I only went that high knowing I may sometimes use it for things where more cores is useful, and it leaves me with tons of flexibility later on what I can use it for when I eventually replace it.  If its just for gaming, higher clocked, less cores is better value.

I'm planning on building my first pc. I'd like to get the 12900k but I've heard thermals are pretty nasty. i don't plan on overclocking either. which AIO on the market today is the best? i don't mind price. a top 3 list would be amazing if you can't narrow it down! thank you in advance

honestly im trying to "future proof" for atleast 2 years. id like to get a 4090. but i need a cpu i can pair it with. i dont want a huge bottle neck from something like a 12600k down the road

Wait for the Raptor Lake gaming reviews.

^ This.

Also, more often than not the i5 won't bottleneck a video card when it comes to gaming, and if it does then it's at such a small percentage that spending the extra money doesn't make it worth while.
