Laptop for study/work to pair with 3440x1440 Thunderbolt 2 ultrawide

Krzych

Hi,

So recently I gifted my old LG 34UC98-W to my sister so she has something to work on, but she still used it with her old laptop which can only run this display at 50 Hz and with some random problems with connecting, on top of being painfully slow, so I am looking for a nice new laptop that would pair well with that display.

It will be mainly for work and study and carrying it to work and university, so gaming is not important, though having at least some basic GPU that can run something like Minecraft would be good. This display can also go up to 75 Hz+ but only with FreeSync active, so Adaptive Sync compatibility would be nice, but not necessary.

One thing that this display has that I am entirely clear about is Thunderbolt 2. Is this one of those cables that you can display a picture and charge your laptop with at the same time? If so then it would be a nice feature to use. It also seems that USB-C starts from Thunderbolt 3 so I would need some kind of adapter since I don't really see any Thunderbolt 2 laptops?

Design wise the laptop she used before was Sony Vaio SVF153A1YM which at the time was really nice with it's pearl white finish and better than average screen, so I would like something in that spirit, nicely designed slim laptop in some nice color like that, so not some generic grey-black or gamery types. Screen size probably no bigger than 15". Those kind of laptop-tablet Surface Pro style things could be an option too, though that's probably gimmicks.

Budget probably up to $1000, but doesn't necessarily have to go that high if not necessary.

I am just beginning to research this and I am really clueless about laptops despite being PC enthusiast, so I know this is all quite vague and not very helpful, but still, any input is useful at this point.

Thanks
