Is silver the best?

Platinum is the best you can get easily. Titanium is the best of the best, but it's hard to get.

80 Plus Platinum is the best, it goes 80 certified - bronze - silver - gold - platinum.

I think Corsair have a new Titanium rated 1500w PSU but I bet you its going to cost loads!.

Titanium spec is 95% efficient (96% @ 240v)

I believe the AX1500i was beaten to the punch by something like a delta unit. So far there are 2 Titanium units I've heard of.

 

I thought this thread was going to be about whether the limited energy (and therefore $) savings and initial cost of buying a Gold+ unit and the limited performance and quality of Bronze- unit made Silver efficiency the sweet spot. Interesting idea I think. Not sure Silver would be the sweet spot, but a sweet spot might exist.

Then again, the market is probably too complex to simplify like that.
