Can I take a bunch of speakers that use standard aux and plug them into the 5.1 headers ion the back of my MB to make a ghetto 5.0 system?

I believe so, as long as the speakers can handle the ohms on the receiver.

Yes, but it's not recommended at all. Also, make sure they are all powered speakers, otherwise the audio level will be very low.

You also have to take into account that the volume has to be controlled separately for every speaker.

What you could do, however, is try to set the volume on every speaker to about the same dB level, and then adjust the volume in Windows from there on out.

But again, this is not recommended.

Good god, I want you to hook up a ghetto surround system just for the fun factor. Don't you think it'd be an amusing side project? And if you like the end result, even better!

HEy it doesnt seem to be working,.,, anyone know why? It detects everything is pluggged in, but thtere is no noise. When i plug a speaker into line out i hear it out of that, but when plugged into the 5.1 outputs, it makes no noise.

You do need to use a program that allows 5.0 or 5.1 output. By default Windows doesn't do that.

Something like the ASUS Xonar program.
