what to do with my optane drive?

so i just upgrade my pc from i7 9700 to i5 12400f with h610 motherboard from biostar. i still have the optane from my previous build. its the 16gb version nvme drive. so i just wondering what to do with it since intel stop supporting optane on 12gen cpu? can i somehow still use it with some workaround?

I have a spare 16GB Optane drive that I use as a decently fast flash drive. I use it with a cheap M.2 to USB 3 adapter board, and it comes in handy at times.

If you don't/can't use Intel's cache software, the drive itself will still work like a small SSD. What you use it for is up to you.

If you need it as a caching solution in 2022 with a 12400... you're doing it wrong.  It won't work if ytou have all SSD storage, and  you shouldn't have anything needing speed on a  HDD.

indeed, but all my steam games is on my HDD and i kinda want to use optane for it.

Right, like I said... IMO which no one, not even my girlfriend, trusts... you're doing it wrong.  Get SSD's for all your games.  It's 2022 for god's sake!

 

Jokes aside, I think you're screwed with the Optane outside of some weird workaround that I wouldn't try.  I'd just grab a 1TB SSD, and yes I understand you may have more than 1TB of games.  If so, get 2TB 🙂 Or be less ADHD and don't play all 20 at once.

 

I'm being sarcastic, but serious too.  HDD's for games... stop.
