10600k for 1080p gaming and streaming?

Go to solution Solved by jaslion,

Skip it. The 12400f + board costs about the same and you aren't stuck on an old platform.

For streaming use the gpu that will probably handle it at 720p but the gpu will be by far the most performant.

Playing at 1080p, upwards of 60fps

Just looking for some opinons on the 10600k I have picked out for my girlfriend.

My main question is that as well as light photo editing and playing games such as Sims 4, Minecraft, Stray and Valorant she always wants to get into streaming. Would this CPU be able to handle playing games while streaming or would it be more practical to get her something with more cores. (I will be overclocking)

She will be playing at 1080p and I'm hoping to get her upwards of 60fps in games, while streaming also.

The GPU is a hand-me-down and will be upgraded quite soon so try not to pay too much attention to it.

The 10600k is too old to justify this price tag, when Intel's 12th gen offers a pretty significant uplift and even Ryzen 5000 series processors will outpace it.

As for streaming, with an RTX graphics card the nvenc unit would stream in white high quality without using up CPU resources. Burning the meantime, if you already have that RX 570 an i5 would handle streaming and gaming simultaneously just fine.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

A Ryzen 5 5600 with B550 is faster, and also cheaper. Or, if you want to go for Intel you can get a 12400 and B660, but all you're getting extra is an iGPU and support for 13th gen upgrades. That iGPU could be helpful for streaming, as Quicksync is currently better than both Nvenc and AMF, especially better than the RX 470 encoder, but the difference between these 3 aren't big, especially with RTX and RX 6000 cards so probably not worth the extra money.

Thanks, exactly the answer I was looking for.

Yes I already have a hand-me-down PSU to give her, I think its a 550w, but might want to get her a new one especially when she gets a GPU upgrade.

Tried looking at the spec differences from the i5-12400 and i5-12400f, they look pretty similar other than the 12400f requires a discrete GPU. Is it just a case of one being cheaper than the other?
