PSU turns on and off repeatedly

Hi! I really don't know where else to ask for help and I really need to get my PC up and running again for work. I just replaced my motherboard, CPU and cooling. Now, whenever I plug in and switch on my PSU the fans and motherboard lights will turn on for a second and then switch off, then on again, then off again in a loop...

 

I've tried reseating the RAM and checked if all the cables were connected properly. My friend guessed it's the PSU and I need to buy a new one but I'm very confused because it was working perfectly before changing the components.

My specs are:

 

Tacens 800W silver PSU

 

GTX 3080

 

i7-12700K

 

iCue h100i LCD

 

HyperX 16gb (2 x 8GB) RAM

 

Gigabyte Z690 ddr4

It is the PSU... had lots of those issues on company machines with enermax quality PSUs... after a few years some just give up.

PSU for sure, if you're lucky it's just one of the cables that's bad and is causing a short and can swap it if you have a spare and it's modular.

THAT is not a very good PSU.

The RTX 3000-series has high transient power spikes, up to 2.5x - 3x.

The RTX 3080 can temporarily spike up to 530W+; if the rest of your system is already pulling ~200W, that PSU could very well trip.

Usually, the spike happens when the system is first powered on, or during high power load.

I agree it's not good but I assumed it'd suffice for now. I've been using the 3080 for a month with no issues.

hard to say, but if the PSU is being constantly push to its limit, every time you power it on, every time you game with it....

If it is a low quality PSU, it can't do that forever; something inside will degrade / wear out.

 

I don't know why you would spend big money on a RTX 3080  and a i7-12700K, but decide to choose a cheap(er) lower quality PSU...

When the PSU is ONE of the MORE IMPORTANT components of ANY PC.

The PSU is essentially the backbone of your system.

 

I would've allocated an extra $ 30 ~ $50 to the PSU, from either the GPU, or the CPU cooler, etc.
