First Build Ever

Go to solution Solved by Erik4boss,

Way I understand it, Intel works with nvidia, AMD sticks to Radeon. I would go for an intel CPU, but I'll have Radeon graphics. So I guess I'll have Radeon. Thanks for your help!

Nah, intel works with radeon and nvidia. AMD works with radeon and nvidia.

It works great using an i3 with a R9 2xx.

I'd go with the intel if it fits your budget.

This would be a great build for your budget, and sadly it is without an OS. There are however places on reddit(?) you can get the OS for not many dollars.

Right.

So it's my first time building a PC. I've come from knowing that bigger numbers are usually better, to a newbie. I understand what goes into a computer and the very basics required. I'm looking at parts for a budget gaming PC. I'd like to run new games at 30 fps on medium settings. But first, I have a few questions. These are all based on this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3yUqK 1. Will all these parts fit together? 2. Is everything necessary here? Like will this connect to the internet? 4. Are there cheaper alternatives to what I have here? 5. Tell me if there's anything wrong with this or anything I might need? 6. Can anyone give a benchmark or approximate an FPS on ultra for modern games? 7. If I buy a part now, and build the rest 3 weeks later, will ESD build up if I leave parts in the packaging (not opening it at all) ?

Thanks in advance  :D

There are a couple changes that need to made to optimize this build because you have an APU as your CPU and that is not optimal for gaming especially since you have a dedicated GPU.

In terms of internet if you are running ethenet (cable) then its fine but if you want WiFi you need to purchase an adapter

This is just a sample build. I would recommend that you purchase all the parts within the same week just in case a part doesn't work. Then you can easily return it within the typical 30 day window.

I think maybe you should do a little more research but I think this is a really solid build for the same price. In terms of benchmarks the Core i3 won't hold the 750 Ti back so just search for some benchmarks of the 750 ti and that should give you an idea of what to expect.

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

4. Yes. Cheaper and better. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3yV6D

5. Nothing fundamentally wrong, it's just a pretty crappy build.

6. Search up 'gtx 650 + whatever game you'd like' on youtube and you will likely find people showing their fps and settings in the video description. You can also look up gtx 650 gaming benchmarks.

7. No but it's best to save up and buy it all at once so you can test the parts and rma them if necessary. Tech also get better and cheaper with time so you get the best value by buying/planning the system as a whole.

I changed the APU to a normal CPU, since you don't need the graphics and got the 750ti insted of the 650.

Gee, didn't expect so many replies so quickly! Thanks a bunch :D

So, at the moment I'm in London, with a budget of around £300-350 pounds. I'll most likely buy a PC first, then buy a peripheral every month or so. I already have a mouse (Microsoft Mobile Mouse 100) that will do, a pair of headphones and speakers, and I'm gonna get windows 8.1. So, for the builds, I'd much rather prefer to get 1 stick of 8GB, rather than 2x4GB, just for the sake of space. I've mixed the parts around from the build everyone recommended, and would this do? also need a decent sized monitor for cheap. No fancy 4K or anything. And will everything physically fit in the case?

If you're not shopping in the US, don't use the US pcpartpicker. There's a drop down menu at the top right to change what region you're shopping in.

Save up until you can buy the system as a whole. Parts and prices change frequently and you also want to be able to test and return parts in case they arrive defective.

Everything will fit but is more expensive and worse than what I suggested above.

So do you have a good build for under £350 on the UK site?

Considering a copy of Windows alone is ~£80, no--at least for gaming.

Save up some more and plan a bit later.

Thanks a lot! I might strip my laptop for parts and use the HDD with windows 7. I can always just stare at the BIOS until I earn some more money :P

Can I choose a different case? I understand as long as it is micro atx it'll fit, right?

Great case from a great Swedish company :)

I am going to use it for a friend due to being cheap, good build quality and airflow.

Alright thanks, and I was just wondering whether it was worth it to save up for an Intel i3 4130T (£91) or just go with the AMD Athlon X4 760K for £60?

If you want to go intel, (depends on how expensive the Motherboard is) you should get the Intel Core i3-4130 and not the T version (low power, £20 more!)

If you want to go AMD, AMD Athlon X4 760K for £60 is a good buy too!

4GB of RAM won't hold anything back? I'm slightly worried about RAM, as my current laptop has 4GB (it says 3.61 is usable?) and it runs terribly. Although I assume it wouldn't matter if I bought extra RAM later.

And please enlighten me with how I can get a cheap OS! I might pirate it and burn it, but I'm a little skeptical about that.

schhh, don't talk about piracy on this forum. Ok, i like it too.

4 GB is enough if you game without having chrome open with more than 2 tabs, and maybe in BF4 it will hold you a little bit back, if so. Just buy 1 more stick for £27 more.
