OK, misread the title. They 5600 and 5600X are effectively the same CPU though, so it doesn't really change my conclusion.

So I was planning to build with the intel I5 12400F for a while but it has gone up in price while the R5 5600 has gone on sale for an absolute steal in a very reputable store. The intel goes for 194€ and the AMD is on sale for 160€ + the B550 motherboards are a lot cheaper too. Is it worth the disscount ?

Their perfromance would probably be similar with Intel slightly edging out amd since they are faster in single core workloads which gaming tends to be. I'd personally reccommend intel since am4 is pretty much eol and 12th gen has the ability to upgrade to 13th gen if wanted, but the amd would be a fine option as well.

The only thing you're giving up on is some future upgradeability to newer CPUs. If you weren't gonna upgrade the CPU anyway or would just want more cores, the discount on the AMD system is hard to ignore. You're fine either way. Given the amount of a discount, I'd go for the 5600X.

Might as well go for it, if you're going to save a decent amount of coin. I don't think you're really going to notice too much of a difference between the two.

When asking these questions it's usually best to tell us what you're doing with the computer, and what the other components will be, as it'll make a difference on the suggestions given.

The chances of an upgrade path mattering at all are incredibly low, and the Ryzen CPUs that work on AM4 go all the way up to 16c32t.

I'm sure most likely that it won't matter, but I suppose it's always nice to have the option.

You do. You can upgrade to the Ryzen 9 flagship.

The flagship Intel CPU on LGA1700 isn't going to be that much better than that.

It would only be a relevant consideration if Intel supported their sockets for more than 2 generations, which they do not.

I am in similar position and wanted to get opinions as well, building a fresh system.

Ryzen 5600: 220$
Gigabyte B550M DS3H: 90$

i5 12400F: 200$
Asus Prime H610M-A D4: 150$
Cheapest B660 Mobo with same specs as B550MDS3H is around 170$.

Any real reason to go with Intel aside from slightly higher single core performance? I am on a budget, and plan to expand my ram from 16 to 32 later on the road as well.
