Slot Loading CD drive (with motors and such, like a ps4) on PC?

Apparently they did exist...

Though, you could get one of these 5.25 Bay Slim Optical and HDD brackets, then throw a used DVD drive from the Unibody iMac or something. I believe Apple still used plain old SATA for those. No funny business there.

Slim Optical & HDD Storage Bay Adapter - Drive Mounting Brackets & Accessories | United Kingdom

Hey I've been casually looking around for a CD drive upgrade because I've had the same LG tray loading drive since 2014. Does anyone even make a 5.25" slot loading drive? OR one that's at least made to go in a standard PC case with 5.25" drive bays?

If not, is it worth buying the 12.7mm ones and find an adapter?

Do adapters like that even exist?

Update: They do! You just need the correct terminology, you're looking for Slim optical drive adapters. Some exist on Ebay (I do not condone this seller this is just an example)

Update 2: I found the original manufactuer. They're called ICY Dock. They sell server adapters and stuff. If you're going down this rabbit hole like me, you can buy from them on amazon. Here's one with only a 12.7mm bay face plate and can apparently hold like 4 SSDs?

I've not been in the ODD game in a while, but from what I remember during a similar venture is that you're probably stuck with an external drive.

Does it absolutely need to be in the 5.25" bay?

Do people still use DVD drives? Can current cases even hold them?

(I know, I know, there will always be someone who needs a DVD drive)

I mean I just want to mount it in a PC case easily. I know some Lian Li cases have a 12.7mm slot in the front of the case, but I don't know what case I'm gonna use in the future.

I'm an oldschooler, I still have tape players in my cars xD

I don't really use CDs but I like having the option. Espically sense Blu Rays can store like 50GBs. I like to record gameplay and stuff and that would free up SO MUCH hard drive space. Or even just archiving space.

I have a Dell slotloader optical drive and media card reader in one of those. That's what I recommend, the last major 5.25 slotloaders were IDE IIRC (although some SATA ones do exist, but this is best for space saving)

I found the slot loading drives to be extremely unreliable. I never had one survive longer than about 5 years whereas nearly all my traditional drives still work fine (although the tray loading mechanism gets a bit weak after 10+ years).

I think I just saw that retro CD drive in an LGR video today. Also, that adapter looks very promising! Thanks so much! Does it also have a 3.5 inch adapter for floppy?
