This is a friend of mine who has just installed his new cooler.

 

What if anything is wrong with this.

Covering RAM slot? Oriented like upside-down ATX.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I would change a few things, but that way still works.

Im not sure what you mean, i have the feeling its to do with the fan blowing air downwards, actually yeah that might do a number on the airflow of the case.

The whole cooler is the wrong way, there's only one stick of RAM which just bothers me as it's not symmetrical and wow those are some color choices.

He posted this picture in a Facebook group, all proud of himself until I sent him a message telling him it was upside down.

 

He had to take it off once already because he forgot to remove the sticker on the bottom of the heat sink.

im pretty sure he stole my asus a88xm plus. other than stealing my board, the cooler is the wrong way round and the ram should be in the black slot nearest to the cpu socket and the fan isnt plugged in the cpu fan header.

There really isn't anything wrong with cooler orientation if it fits that way. The fan is in wrong side and wrong way though. I could put it pushing from GPU side towards top and have case fans helping on top exhaust.

Even if we forget about the GPU being warmed by the hot air or even anything PC specific and just think about basic physics, you are pushing hot air downwards. Hot air naturally wants to rise, so you're just fighting against the natural convection currents in your case making the job of all the heat sinks more difficult. There is a reason why most cases have intakes at the bottom and exhausts at the top.
