I just saw online that in 2008 MSI made a "ECO/Powerless CPU Cooler" that was a Sterling engine with a fan in the flywheel all attached to a single heatsink (link attached).  It obviously wouldn't be effective for a high-end gaming rig, but I thought it was a cool idea, and wanted to share.

If I ever get a Sterling engine, I really want to try it!

Anyone else?

I can't imagine it's more efficient than a good passive cooler. Just like a Peltier module it's just another step between the CPU and the heat pipes. This is from the days when Zalman's copper flowers were considered acceptable aftermarket coolers, so maybe this worked fine back then.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
