GPU to pair with an i7-8700 non K

Hello!

 

Could you guys tell me some GPUs to pair with my 8700 that won't be a bottleneck. I currently use a 1060 6GB but I'm looking for something better or the max I can get from the combo.

The max depends on your performance expectations, whether you're gaming at 1440p or 4K, etcetera. 

 

Do you have some fast ram, or are you using DDR4 2666 or lower?

 

In general, a few good options would be graphics cards along the lines of a 3060 ti or RX 6600 XT.

When upgrading an existing system I would generally always recommend just deciding your budget and then buying the best GPU that fits within that budget, without regard to "bottlenecks" with other parts. If you buy your GPU based on a CPU you're going to replace fairly soon, then you're just setting yourself up to have to replace the card again to get something that will "keep up" with the CPU.

For 1080p, you don't need a particularly powerful GPU for good performance. What kind of budget do you have?

None as of now. You could list GPU's if you want and I'll check local prices and adjust accordingly.

I'd look at used 1080/1080Ti or 2070, or max a 3060.

For 1080p (assuming 144Fps is on the table) anything in the range of an RTX 3060 to 3070, or RX 6600 to 6700 XT would be reasonable. Erring on the cheaper side for better value.

It's decent. I'm not complaining. I usually play on low settings because I play FPS games. What would you suggest as an AMD option? I've got a Freesync monitor so I'd like to utilize the Freesync option because I currently cannot use it due to my gpu being Nvidia.

 

Edit: The monitor is 60hz because I didn't have a huge budget back then. Might upgrade to 144hz in the near future.

I like Gigabyte for motherboards and GPUs personally, but EVGA is always a solid bet as well.

Alright. Found a used RTX 2070 for 250-300$. Is that a fair price for the GPU for being 3 years old?

Yes, that seems to be the range for them used.  Should be a pretty large step up for you.  Enjoy.

Thank you! If the deal isn't to my liking, is there are huge difference between the 2060 and 2070?

There is, but it's offset by price of course. I wouldn't go 1660 6GB to 2060 personally.  2070 or higher.

The best card for 1080p right now is the 3060ti. But the best card that would work well with that is probably a 3070.

Alright. 2070 it is. Was asking because a friend of mine told me he has a 2060 almost new and would give it for cheaper but I do After Effects and etc, so I would need those extra 2 GB from the 2070. Thanks so much for the help and the info!

@Dedayog Hey Deda, sadly it didn't work out with that rtx 2070. I've been looking at 1080s but I'm kinda worried about it because they are kinda old and the chance of it dying because it's used is huge. I found a 2070 Super for 370 EUR/$380. Is the price worth it in 2022 or should I wait a little bit more?

Not a bad price, we're seeing similar here. If you CAN wait, I would a bit longer.  I'm expecting Black Friday/Cyber Monday time frame to be pretty good, but I obviously don't know for sure.

 

How much longer can you wait?  If not, then see if you can snake a 2070SUper for 350.

Freesync is supported with every Nvidia gpu since Pascal. Should work with your 1060.

Personally I'd go with RX 6600 or 6600XT for 1080p60. Nothing below the RX 6600 is good value IMO unless you buy used.

I can wait until Black Friday tbh. It's my brother that doesn't have a PC and he's urging me to buy stuff so he can get this GPU. The only iffy thing is that he didn't show GPU-Z/benchmark screenshots. But he took photos and the GPU is working, LEDs are light and etc. The model is a MSI Gaming X RTX 2070 Super

I looked at used RX 6600 and XT versions, they are like 100-200eur more expensive for some reason.
