6 pin to 8 pin connectors

Tom80765412

Hello everyone,

I am planning to upgrade my gpu soon.

Currently i am using a Corsair 650 watt psu with only 6 pin connectors.

While searching for GPUs, i noticed some require 8 pin connectors.

Is it safe to use 6 pin to 8 pin converters like these:

https://www.amazon.com/6-pin-8-pcie-adapter/s?k=6+pin+to+8+pin+pcie+adapter

Are there any specific brand which are better?

Any other solution i should consider when pairing a 8 pin gpu with psu with 6 pin connectors...??

well.. you can use those.. but depending on the GPU you are looking to buy you should check what is recomended PSU strength.

I would not have used anything less than that, rather more.

there is a PSU list somewhere on the forum. you'll find it under hardware PSU tagged at the top probably..  or others will link it for you

honestly.. with PSU's what you pay is what you get.. the better quality ones are usually a bit more expencive.

No,This kind of adaptors is a fire hazard.

If it doesn't come with a 8 pin it probably can't do 8 pin.

What psu is it? 650w corsair with only 6 pins isnt enough info we need a model.

The only units I can find with those specs are either very very old and/or crap

Those adapters are always a bad idea.
