Is this PSU gone or was this gamble worth it?

dani.petro

Just got hold of a used Corsair CX450 (New White/Gray label) for testing my fans. The PSU is around 2years old.

Since it's in warranty and seller quoted that it doesn't hold power and trips (needs a full switch off from mains to be able to restart) when on load and UPS switches to battery power (UPS advertises 7-10ms switch over time). If on idle or low load it works fine when switching from UPS AC to Battery power.

12v and 5v Voltages on load and idle are well within specs (measured with multimeter on a spare molex connector).

The seller's PC had a ryzen 1600 stock cooler, 16gb ram, 1660 6gb and 6 corsair ll120 fans.

Got the PSU for free on condition that if I can RMA then will pay $10 or will keep it as it is. Should I just try to RMA it if the local service partner allows?

RMA for a brand new PSU for 10 bucks.  Bargain!

RMA with Corsair, if they accept the warranty (seller said it's only 2 years old so you should be just fine,) is great. Odds are if the PSU can't be fixed they'll just ship you another one.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.
