PLEASE HELP 馃槂馃ズ PSU cable length

Hi all聽

I am building a PC and I have ordered a set of 30cm Psu cables and only now am I wondering if 30cm is long enough for an ATX PC case with the PSU mounted at the bottom of the case聽

Do you think the cable will be long enough to reach all the places it needs to go or do I need to get longer cables聽

Thanks in advance for all the help and advice you all can give me聽

I'm new to the ltt forums so I hope you can help me out聽

Thanks everyone 馃檪

That's gonna be highly dependent on the case.聽 That's only a 12" Cable?聽 So....聽 For most ATX Builds, that's gonna come up very short.聽聽

The ATX 4/8 pin will absolutely not reach from the bottom to the top.聽 (ATX Motherboards are more than 12" Tall.)

30cm is roughly half the length of normal PSU cables, so unless it's a top mounted PSU and you're not planning on doing any cable management, you're going to struggle. If it's 30cm extensions, you also wasted your money.

most likely not, 30cm is quite short. you'll have a hard time reaching the CPU power socket. if you can't cancel the order wait for them to arrive, see if any of them are long enough and re-order the rest in a longer size (I'd go for at least 60cm)

better to have too much than not enough. at least go for 60cm, it can be tucked away later anyways

That's why I break mine twice.

The PSU didn't come with the cables included?

What's the brand and model of the PSU.

Do you have a link to the cables you bought?

Wait, you ordered a custom PSU cable? from where if I may know? Cablemod?
Or did you mean you ordered an extension cable. Like sleeved extension from amazon/newegg/somewhere.

Because if it's a custom PSU cable, you better make sure the one making it know what they are doing and it's compatible with your PSU.

If it's just an extension then it doesn't matter (aside from wire size), 30cm will be plenty if so. Because you'll be adding the original PSU cable length.
The extension just need to be long enough to go from the terminal to the cable management hole that you want to put it through.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

  • 4 weeks later...

I have recently purchased the A4-H20 ITX Case and I have a Corsair SF750 PSU but I am looking at some custom-length 24-pin and a single PCI-E cables. I do have an idea of the lengths but just want to see if anyone has managed to do the same and can confirm the lengths for me.

Now I have a rough guess that the 24-pin will need to be about 250mm long and the PCI-E about 100mm (only need a single PCI-E cable/connector). Does anyone know if these are correct or would anyone have a better idea?
