Run PC off UPS indefinitely

Go to solution Solved by Jorgemeister,

Yes, thats how they work, PC+Monitor(S) plugged to the UPS, UPS plugged to the wall.

Use the included USB cable from UPS to PC to use their software, you can program stuff there like "shut PC off if its running on battery battery bellow X%"and other things.

Also, their manual says to charge them for 8 hours before plugging your PC to it

I have a question is it bad to run my pc solely off my UPS indefinitely  as long as the ups has continuous power. Im in a weird situation where the only way to power my PC is with an extension cord and I rather power my pc from the UPS after having that extension cord plugged into the UPS , not directly from  extension cord to PC.   Will that be an issue?

There are devices called Online UPS's, which do exactly that. As with all things, quality is what matters.

That would be a solid option for a single gaming PC setup.

I thought they were designed for use only during a power failure not to continually power the computers power supply.  Am I wrong?

Yes. The point of the UPS is to maintain power to the computer if mains power fails without interruption (hence "Uninterruptible Power Supply"), for that to happen it's got to be inline with the power connection all the time.

They do both, just as protection bypass when they are powered and as a backup battery when your energy fails.

I have the brand/model you linked but the 1000VA, they come with an useful software that tells you your PC total power draga and how much longer it would run with battery if there was an outtage or you unplug it. I can totally tell you they work as advertised and have had zero problems with it.

So I can run my pc from the UPS alone as long as the UPS is always plugged in?

Yes, thats how they work, PC+Monitor(S) plugged to the UPS, UPS plugged to the wall.

Use the included USB cable from UPS to PC to use their software, you can program stuff there like "shut PC off if its running on battery battery bellow X%"and other things.

Also, their manual says to charge them for 8 hours before plugging your PC to it
