What’s a better monitor?

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

That IBuyPower computer comes with a AMD RX6500 which is a low budget video card that's best suited for 1080p gaming. It will struggle a bit at 1440p, especially as it has only 4 GB of RAM.

This being said, both of those monitors are 1440p but the second is up to 170Hz and the first is up to 240 Hz with HDR.

You can compare the monitors by reading the RTings reviews:

XG27AQ : https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/rog-strix-xg27aq

PG279QM (assume this is the model for first monitor) : https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/rog-swift-pg279qm

As you can see if you check those reviews, the XG scores a bit better at everything - it seems you get a better quality panel but you trade a bit of Hz and HDR, which honestly, I don't think it matters.

How often you'd use HDR... I don't know... but for sure you won't even get 120fps in most games with that RX 6500 (and the low end 12100F Intel cpu) so you really don't need 240 Hz refresh rate.

This being said, if you didn't order that system already, I'd encourage you to pick something better if your budget allows.

Instead of spending $500 on the monitor, spend $2-300 on a decent 24"  1080p monitor with 120-165Hz and bump up the system to a  six core and a RX 6600 or nvidia equivalent and maybe 16 GB of memory.

For example Gigabyte G27Q at $250 : https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/gigabyte/g27q

What is a better monitor for the Gaming RDY SLHBR202 by iBUYPOWER? ASUS ROG Swift 27" 1440P Gaming Monitor. Or the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQ 27” HDR Gaming Monitor? It’s for multipurpose uses like gaming and studies? Could you list the pros and cons and ur opinion on what you think will be better please?

I own the XG27AQ, and I love it. I don't know what the prices are in your country, but in the US the XG27AQ is much cheaper ($479 vs. $715), and all you're losing is higher refresh rate (which your chosen PC and GPU can't utilize) and a big better brightness for HDR (neither is that great at it anyway).

I agree with mariushm that if you haven't bought your PC/GPU yet, spend a bit more to upgrade that. The RX 6500 may get just 30 fps in some games at 1440p, though some will manage 60-70 fps. As such, you really won't use the 144Hz (or 240Hz) of these monitors.
