Recommended Upgrade

LennyD

Hello! I am looking to upgrade my rig mostly my CPU mostly because the one i own is not keeping up with what i require it to do. My PC parts currently:

Budget (including currency) : 1700 RON (343.85 EUR, 368.44 USD)

Country: Romania

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Witcher 3, Battlefront 2, Elden Ring and upcoming AAA games, Minecraft for games, as for other programs mostly Photoshop, Premiere Pro.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

CPU: i5 6500k 3.20 GHz

MOBO: ASUS Prime Z270-P

RAM: 2 x DDR4 2133Mhz 8 GB

GPU: ASUS 1060 Strix 6 GN

PSU: Corsair RM650x

I am looking to get a new CPU and Motherboard this month and new RAM in the next months(RAM not included in budget)

I had a Ryzen 5 5600X(1.127  RON) in mind and with the difference to get a motherboard. The motherboard must have AM4 cpu slot, 4 dimm slots, at least 64 GB max capacity, at least 3 SATA connectors and maybe 3 fan heads. I am aware that the chances of these specifications to be on one single motherboard might be a stretch but i am willing to make compromises on it. I am open to any suggestions. What i look most in a motherboard is it's ability to upgrade in the future with better RAM and everything.

I am ok with 1080p gaming. I own a generic office monitor 60Hz monitor. A 144Hz monitor would be nice but i doubt i can get that in these games with the current GPU.

The newest part i got was the PSU after i had some electrical problems in my house, it is kind of overkill for the current specs but i did think i would upgrade in the future and it would help to buy a better one in advance.

I bought the GPU around 2018 and i would like to keep it still although i am aware that it is quite old. Feel free to let me know what could some upgrades for it i could consider in the near future.

If you have any other CPU+motherboard suggestions feel free to let me know. I am almost set on 5600X but i am always looking for suggestions, keep in mind that the CPU+MOBO combo must not go over budget.

Also, i heard the cooler included with the CPU might not hold up well so let me know if i should consider getting a new one with it.

TLTR

  •  A motherboard for a 5600X to add up to 1700 RON
  •  A CPU+MOBO to add up to 1700 RON
  •  A GPU upgrade in the near future? I am not sure of the price for it but let me know something in between everything

Thank you!

I have the previous version in B450, has 4/5 fan headers, 6? sata ports, up to either 64 or 128gb memory. That one should come in just above the budget, the b450 is less expensive but harder to find in Romania in stock, so if you can find the b450 it should some in right at your hard budget.

I would go https://www.cel.ro/placi-de-baza/placa-de-baza-msi-b450-tomahawk-max-ii-socket-am4-pMiE0NDMpMw-l/

the 5600x tray version on the same site is 1019RON

Then get yourself a cheap 120mm tower cooler, eg: https://www.cel.ro/coolere-componente/cooler-procesor-deepcool-gammaxx-300-pMCI3MDQt-l/

B550 doesnt really gain you anything when your on a tight budget IMO, just ends up costing more.

Did some more research and found out that this b550 chipset tends to have usb connectivity issues, do you know anything about that?

My b450 has never had any USB issues, haven't heard much about b550 connection issues. I remember first gen Ryzen/TR and b350 had really annoying USB issues, but my 2600x and b450 have been excellent.

I had USB issues with Ryzen 3000 and X570. Though I'm pretty sure it's been fixed in last year's BIOS releases.

Interesting. I've loved my ASRock board.

ASUS guy myself. I occasionally look for AsRock Rack stuff for a server build that I'm building in my head.
