Dark spots on pin (brand new GPU)? Is this serious?

ManderleyBoy

I’m pretty sure it’s just my OCD but I had to check. I got a new 3060ti. I just opened it and as you can see here: this and this

—there is a small dark spot. It doesn’t look like anything serious to me and it works just fine but I was just wondering what it could be. Thanks.

If you want, you could try and wipe it away with Isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip. Just make sure it has ample time to dry after you do this. It really shouldn't be an issue though.

Definitely too scared to do that. I’ll just leave it as it seems to work great. Thanks for answering

Seems like manufacturing smudge

I recommend you wipe it away instead of just leaving it

As long it's not oily, or grimy, or anything that seems like it contains liquid, electrically conductive materials, or something that burns easily.
It's fine.

It just looks like a permanent mark. It is dry. I don’t think it looks corrosive.

What could happen if I don’t?

Well, PCIe lane provide power too for the GPU or any PCI card. up to 75watt IIRC.
And GPU can be quite hot.

So if you combine liquid / metal + electricity you get =
And if you combine enough heat + flammable material you get =

How could it be flammable though? Sorry for not understanding but it seems like a black smudge, dirt or something. I think if it was flammable it would have caught fire by now.

Well yeah, I was giving example of bad stuffs that it might be.

Example : "Like a dirt"
What kind of dirt? there could be various things in dirt.
Smudge? what kinda smudge? grease? oil? a not cleanly wiped cola residue?

The point is :
If you care about your component, check, using a safe method of course.
Because we  can't really tell much by just picture alone. And you're the one that can touch it physically. XD

Not trying to put words in his/her mouth, but I think it is what @Moonzy implied too

What I meant is that it looks pretty dry, I don’t think it’s greasy.

It was like that when I took it out of the brand new box.

well it doesnt seem to be on the contact so it might just be dirty PCB material, in which case u can just use it as is
