Hi,

I want to build a new PC. Picking parts is a lot of fun but now Im stuck between the ryzen7 5800x and the core i7 11700kf. I checked a lot of benchmarks but I really wanna know what these two can really do per sec. So if i would just compare boost clockspeed the i7 11700kf would clearly win but the IPC is influencing this too. But I cant find anything about the IPC of these CPUs. Does anyone know how to get these informations?

Puget Systems use standardized testing.

Unless you're looking for an exact IPC number. That's going to be extremely difficult to find.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

You can't.

It is very hard to perform an IPC comparison, because the internals of an AMD CPU is different from an Intel CPU.

The best you can do is (what I can think of right now):

  • Both CPU clocked the same, NO boosting up or down (i.e. 4.0 GHz flat)
  • Exact same memory kit, running at the same frequency + timings
  • Same GPU, PSU, SSD/HDD, Cooler.

But nobody does that....

Reviews basically compares them at "out-of-the-box" configuration.

So the CPU will boost up/down on it's own.

First question that comes in my mind; why 11700KF instead of 12600K(F) or 12700K(F)?

Indeed, the 11700K makes no sense compared to 12600K...

If you're wanting to get the more IPC possible either get a 12600K or better, they're faster than Ryzen 5000s

I use Pass Mark single thread bench scores to get a good idea were a CPU stands.  https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

IPC is very important with my modded games since my i7 8086k and i9 9900k(5ghz all cores) are a stuttering mess playing them but are fine with vanilla games.

My 5800x played them smoothly as well as my 5900x, i9 10900k and i9 11900k.

I would not get an i7 11700k since it does not support TVB(thermal velocity boost). This allows the CPUs like the i9 11900k to hit 5.3ghz while staying below 70c. This smooths out most rough spots in games. It does not help with any all core benches.

I would get a 5800x.

The 5800X3D is currently the best/fastest Ryzen cpu for gaming. There won't be much difference between the 5700X and 5800X. Also 4K gaming pretty much levels things out apart from the odd game. If you are gaming at 1080p/1440p then there will be a bigger gap between the 5800X3D and 5700X/5800X.

As for Intel a 12700/F and B660 board is a better option than 11th gen.

If you can't go with a 12600K or 12700K for some reason, then I'd go with the 5800X (or a 5700X if you have one available in your area for cheaper than the 5800X). The performance between the 5800X and the 11700KF are almost identical, with a slight edge to the 5800X, but the biggest advantage is with the platform.

Intel socket 1200 (400 and 500 series boards supporting 10th and 11th gen) is a terrible platform. I can't say it was the worst platform Intel ever released for sure, but it's up there. You have no upgrade path beyond the 11700KF - the 10900K loses PCIe Gen 4, and the 11900K is just the same CPU with a slightly better binning - so once you're there, you're done. The only option is a total platform upgrade.

Whereas, at least with a 5700X or 5800X, you have options to go from there thanks to the excellent AM4 platform. The Ryzen 9 5900X or 5950X offers you more cores, and the 5800X3D offers much better gaming performance. They are actual upgrade paths that can give your computer more life down the road if you can afford to get a used Ryzen chip, but can't yet afford a full platform upgrade.
