I am getting an error not sure how to fix this.

The problem was with the rafus, DD mode needs to be enable

EDIT: Found the solution

I recently got a HP business PC, and want to turn it into a server. I want to have file sharing, firewall (like but not limited to PFsense), and to be able to run Minecraft servers on it. Is doing all that on one machine possible? Also the PC comes with win 10 pro, should I change OS? If it is possible what is the best and safest way (security and remote connection wise) to approach this? The specs of the PC are not bad by any means and it is very upgradable.

Specs

  • Intel Core i7-9700 3GHz
  • 16 Gbs of ram (15.8 Gbs usable)
  • 64 bit system, x64-based processor
  • On board GPU

Id probably run a hypervisor on the host. This will be almost needed as you want to run a virtual router. You also want a second network card, one for WAN and one for LAN(or vlans, but second network card is much easier). Then Id make a vm for the file sharing and minecraft server. Im a fan of proxmox, but you can do this on windows with hyper-v if you want, or use esxi.

x2 on Proxmox. Will probably want to up your ram at some point once you start discovering everything you can do on proxmox. The drive configuration is a bit daunting at first, but the manual for proxmox is absolutely stellar and it has a huge support community. Hyper V would work as mentioned, but you don't have the same level of control as you do with proxmox.

Just realized I probably can't get proxmox as I am running only 1 ssd as of right now. From what I have heard you need a second ssd to be able to run proxmox. Plus I tried to get the PC to boot from USB but etcher keeps making 3 partitions on the USB when trying to etcher proxmox (not sure if that is normal).

You can have one ssd for proxmox, I have done this many times before.

Id try using rufus, and its pretty common for a bootable usb to have multiple partitions for things like the efi partition.

Ok that is good to hear, I think it might have been just a thing when proxmox was newer to the market. I will try that when I get home later today. My main goal now is to get steamCMD and get 2 no gui mc servers running on it.

I am running into an issues while trying to boot from usb. I get the error Selected boot image did not authenticate, please press enter to attempt boot to next device. Any fixes?

Did you disable secure boot in the bios? this seems like a secure boot issue.
