[Solved] Dimm 2 question

Hello,

 

I'm starting a new build, and have what I hope to be easy question about the DIMM 2 slot. Aesthetically I like the look of the build with the DIMM 2 card slotted into the Motherboard, however I don't actually have any NVMe drives to actually slot into the card itself. So my question is, can I slot in my DIMM 2 card sans NVMe drives without any detriments to the system.

Are you referring to the M.2 Cover/ heatsink? If so, yea there shouldn't be any issues leaving it on without a M.2 drive underneath.

He's referring to a "DIMM.2" NVMe riser that Asus boards had for a hot minute: https://digichasers.com/dimm-2/ 

 

I was very confused on first reading the post as well.

Some ASUS boards still do (see Maximus Z690 Apex and Extreme)

 

 

Either way it shouldn't cause any issues.

TIL. I thought it had gone the way of the dodo now that most high-end boards have 2+ normal M.2 NVMe slots.

Oh... never seen that before. Wait... it's just a black PCB... how is this aesthetically better? You know what... nevermind...

And I just prefer not having visible open slots, now it just looks like another heat sink.
