Air Cooling 5800x3D/5900x in SFF PC

Hello,
I'm looking to upgrade my processor pretty soon here to either the 5900x or the 5800x3D.
Currently sporting a Scythe Big Shuriken 3 in my Meshilicious with my current R5 3600 which works great.

Would this cooler still be sufficient if I were to upgrade to the 5800x3D or 5900x?
I know that eco mode is an option but I'd like to have that as the second to last resort, the last being to buy a new cooler.

It does work for a 5900x. It will run hot but it does work.

I would add that if it works for 5900x, it will work even better for the 5800x3D, because it has a hard limit of 1.35V thanks to the added cache, so less heat, it also boosts to lower clock speeds.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

I guess I'm still on the fence about getting the 5900x vs 5800x3d as the 5900x would give me 4 more cores and 8 more threads at a cheaper price, however if I go with the 5900x the temps would be pretty high with an air cooler. Unless I put it in eco, but is eco-mode silly on a 5900x? I only saw one post where someone was only able to run it a 2.9gHz on eco which is unfortunate.

I don't know your use case, but the 5800X3D only makes sense for gaming, 5900x or 5700x would be the better picks for anything productivity related.

And yes Eco mode would be pretty silly, might as well get a 5700x at that point, unless you really need those 12 cores.

Mostly for gaming honestly, anything related to work has been fine on the 3600. I'm essentially looking for an FPS uplift on an ultrawide at 3440x1440.

The 5800x3D is really enticing since the performance results have shown a bit of a gain over the 5800x (and honestly it doesn't make much sense to get a 5800x if the 5700x exists). However the 5800x3D probably won't be sub $400 any time soon whereas I can get the 5900x right now for ~$360.

5900X will push up to 5150MHz single threaded goodness, great for games.. what does the 5800X3D clock up to? Just 4500? Bah.. who cares about the extra cache when you have cores, clocks, and cache? 5900X rips. But to be fair, it also uses a lot more power than the X3D. I have seen over 225w PPT and it is intense.. so there is that.

5900X at Eco is what 3700MHz? Don't waste your time..

Fair enough, I guess if I can get the 5900x for cheaper than the 5800x3d, there's no point in not getting the 5900x.

I see you're using a 5900x with a B550. Do you have any air or aio suggestions?

Yessir. Its a great CPU.. but I am not going to lie.. I did get tempted into buying the X3D too.. Had it in my cart like 5 times already lol.. just had to enter the 3 numbers on the back of the card to seal the deal 😄

I don't know what your limitations on cooler size are.. the only air cooler I will recommend is the Thermalright FC140. can be found on Amazon but I got mine on AliExpress the day it launched lol..

As for an AIO.. I am not really the guy to ask about those.. but if I were to get one, it would either be an Arctic, or EK.

Darn, the FC140 is too chunky for my SFF. I'll do more digging. Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless!

Any time!

I am sure there are other good coolers.. I am not really a Noctua guy, but people seem to like them.. 😄

Long a short is a I had an Ultra 120 Extreme and a D14, and I sold the D14 😜

Ah.. all my fans are Noctua.. iPPC 3K  🤫
